Benefits To Having A Long Distance Friendship

Having a long distance friendship is hard, without a doubt. But there are some upsides. Here's a few of them:

1. You Finally Have A Purpose For Skype

Let's be honest, we almost never use Skype. But if it means reconnecting with our friend then fire it up! Long distance friends are pretty much what keeps Skype in business.

2. No Conversation Is Dull

Ever time you talk to your long distance friend the conversation is just grand. Probably because there's so much to catch up on!

"So how's your new puppy?"

"Did he finally ask you out?"

"Did you get the job?"

3. You Cherish Every Second With Them

Even though you don't get to see them very often every moment with them is special and you never forget.

4. New!

The moments when you do visit them are usually new. Especially since the time between when you two get to see each other is long there's usually something different whether it's a new car, new pet, new furniture, or just something else. This also does for a great conversation starter.

5. They're Always The Best Judge

Since they may or may not already know you're close friends or your new boyfriend or whoever they're usually the best judge. They provide you with an unbiased opinion on whatever's bothering you (usually).

6. Travel

Since they live so far away you guys get to travel to see each other. And who doesn't love a nice little vacation here and there?

Great take lemon lime. :) I am currently in a "long distance relationship" because my boyfriend recently when to Flordia for a few weeks with his family. Yeah, it sucks not being able to touch him and stuff, but I will be okay. That's one of the drawbacks in being in a long distance relationship, but it is okay regardless. I am so greatful to have the technology to be able to speak to him from miles away. It gives me relief and it tests our loyalty to each other. Good take though.

I started a relationship with my boyfriend about two weeks before I left for college 3 1/2 hours away. It was new and we used Skype all the time, when crappy apartment wifi permitted haha. And we talked and text each other all the time. Because on top of trying to stay connected, we were trying to connect to each other.

I'm lucky that he cared enough for me, and luckily had the means, so he would visit me every 2-4 weeks. And it really helped us have that alone time we wouldn't have gotten even if I was home. Every few weeks I got to learn more about him as we cooked for each other, played with my roommates cat, and went out on the college town. It was great. I was forced to live two extremes, live far away from him and live with him for a few days in very close proximity.

So, I'm all for long distance relationships. It worked for me, and almost 11 months later I get to have my first full summer with him. It's going great, and I really appreciate each moment with him (as I did when I was at school) because I know I'll be gone soon and then I'll get to hold him every few weeks.

This is true. I'm Scottish and I'm in two long distance friendships, one is a guy from Oregon and the other is a girl from Texas and I can say that I seem to click in with them more than most of my friends that live in my city. The fact that we're from different countries makes it very interesting too.

But there is no doubt that it is hard, because I may never see them, touch them or hang out with them. Maybe in the soon future, but maybe by that time they will be in high careers, married, have kids and pretty much completed with their life goals and not have any time for me at all. I'd say it's best for me to try my hardest to find a way to meet them in real life where we could take our friendships to a much higher level. Overall, I believe long distance friendships do work.

I agree with all your points. I always have been close to my friends, but within a few months, one of my best friends will go back to Brazil. So, our friendship will become a long distance friendship. The worst part of it is that I won't be able to visit her, so that's the dark side of friendships like these.

My Best friend and I have had a long distance friendship for over 12 years. We still best of friends. she is always there for me. We do not need to live in each others pockets. We there when we need each other. That is what our friendship is about. If you need me, I am there.

Yeah that's true to an extent but long distance is really hard. I think that people don't realise how difficult it actually is until they're in one. The bond that is shared between two people has to be very strong.

Nice take! Most of my friends live at least an hour away from me so we always meet like once every few weeks. It's so much fun! And when we're not meeting up we all talk on WhatsApp in a group chat. Good stuff.

This is so true. My best friend and I live across states and every time we're together and talking, it's awesome. People always assume we're dating cause of our closeness, but the names are worth seeing her after not being able to for months!

One of my best friends was someone I met online, literally talked to eacother for 8 hours at a time every few days, for years. Then they died, never got to meet them in person, which was going to happen that year.

The above points are true. I've been in a LDR for more than 2 years, it didn't work out, which i thought it would. I wouldn't risk a long distance relationship again.
