+1 yI'm going to take everything you say with a grain of salt, because you're a teenage girl, who has been spoiled with fancy devices and a car.
Methinks you're not telling the full story.
Why would you be given such things, then get punished for using them for their intended purposes? This story makes no sense.
If your mother was so uppity about Instagram, she wouldn't have gotten you a smartphone in the first place.
I don't think your mother is being unreasonable. I think you've done something to deserve your punishment and are leaving out the details, demonizing your mother for being a good parent.
I bet you posted half nudes on Instagram, I bet you engaged in some form of sexual chit chat with older guys. I bet you threw an "I hate you!" hissyfit, when your mom discovered the truth.
As I said before, your mother wouldn't have gotten you a smartphone, if she didn't want you to use social media.
It is HOW you used it and the fact that you lied on top.
I think you received a just punishment.110 Reply- +1 y
Why would I have a reason to lie on here. And my grandpa bought me this phone. And I'm not a slut I'm not posting naked pics on ig. I would have no reason to lie about this if I'm just asking for advice. And when she yelled at me I didn't throw a fit. I was actually with a friend and she yelled in front of my friend so I chose not to fight back because that would just be even more embarrassing. I'm telling the full truth. There are no bad pics involved. I just snuck behind her back and went on my phone to talk with my friends and go on Instagram. Then I lied when she asked about it. That's all
- +1 y
And I actually paid for my own car. We're not rich. My moms a stay at home mom and my step dad is a principal and a private school. We live pay check to pay check. We don't have enough money to spent it in fancy cars
- +1 y
Somehow I find it hard to believe your mom would take away your phone for using it what it was made for.
I've known some strict unreasonable parents, but behind every punishment there was still a reason.
You've lied before, who's to say you're not lying now? I'm not the only one here, who picked up on the fact that this story sounds fishy. - +1 y
Why the hell would I have a reason to lie to people I want to help me? She got mad because she took it away and I used it. The first time she took it away was because if grades. And them I used it while I was on restriction and she found out and got mad.
- +1 y
Doesn't look like you're seeking advice here, though, looks more like you want people to pat you on the back and tell you your mom is being unfair.
I like how you're avoiding to admit that you were sexting some random blokes.
She punished you for bad behavior by taking your phone away, you went behind her back to use it and then lied some more.
Sounds like a fair punishment for a disobedient child. Highly doubt it's actually forever, more like until further notice. - +1 y
I did sext someone. But it was someone I knew and she knew about it months before all this happened. So why take it away now if I it's for that reason
- +1 y
You got bad grades - got punshied for it.
You decide to circumvent your punishment AND lied about it, when questioned, so she decided to take your phone away for a much longer time, because you clearly didn't get the message the first time.
Sounds like a fair punishment to me.
The sexting thing just adds to your mother's opinion of your behavior and most likely fueled her decision. - +1 y
Okay that makes sense. Thanks for helping.
- +1 y
In your OP you left out all these details and just made your mom sound like a phycho.
"My mom took my phone away forever, because I went on Instagram this weekend."
and
"My mom took my phone away forever, because I was not allowed to use it due to being punished for bad grades/behavior, but I snuck it out behind her back this weekend, then lied about it."
are two VERY different stories.
So yeah, thanks for confirming my suspicions about you not telling the full story. ;) - +1 y
You know what you're an ugly bitch and you're just telling off young girls because you wish you were still one and you actually had a life as good as I've had it so..

Did you ask your mum to explain her reasoning? Whatever, the other functions your phone has, it is always a tool you NEED in an emergency. In fact the phone is pretty vital these days to help you out in very difficult or dangerous situations. And without one, you could be in serious danger.
01 Reply- +1 y
That's what I told her! She says that since I'm "never" leaving the house there won't be any emergencies. But I stay home one all the time. And she lets me drive to my soccer games
500 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. I doubt she actually took it away from you "forever". Ask if there are any chores you can help with around the house in order to prove that you're responsible, so that you can have your phone back at some point.
01 Reply- +1 y
That's what I'm gunna start doing. Hopefully she'll see I'm trying. And then give it back
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yJesus Christ is she always like that? I grew up with a mother who divorced when I was little, then became bipolar and would always lash out at me.. So that's normal from my mom.. But most people aren't like that.
06 Reply- +1 y
Well she absolutely hates lying. But most of the time she's chill. But she's is way more strict then all my friends parents
Opinion Owner+1 yOk ah we'll I would talk about it... I did that win my mom, and it got me some comforts. Make a list of reasons why you should be able to have your xyz back, then I make a little speech to go with it. Either that or just butter her up.
- +1 y
All right. I'll try that. Thanks (:
Opinion Owner+1 yNo prob.
- +1 y
What?
+1 yYeah. She is over reacting. You'll get your phone back. If you don't have you phone back in a week, start showing her rape reports about victims who didn't have a cellphone to call 911. That should do the trick.

omg hahah. That's pretty extreme

+1 yI don't think we're getting the full story here.
However if she pays for the phone its hers, not yours.
I doubt she'd take it away just because you used it on the weekend. There's more to this tgan meets the eye.22 Reply- +1 y
I really did just go on Instagram over the weekend. And I lied about it so that for her even more mad. So it kinda just all piled on
- +1 y
But it's actually my grandpa who bought the actual phone for me
+1 yMaybe if your old enough to have a car you should get a job buy your own phone pay your own bills then you wouldn't have your phone taken away and your friends you lost over this are not real friends if they are upset over you not having a phone personally I highly doubt your telling the whole story
00 Reply
+1 yIf you can drive yourself places why can't you take over responsiblilty for your phone bills, if thats the case. If its the fact that you used it while away i dont understand why you couldnt use it?
04 Reply- +1 y
Because I don't have money to pay for it.
- +1 y
Oh ok, that makes sense. She does understand that if she doesn't let you use the phone you can't contact job openings and if you can't drive you can't go to.jobs and if you can't go.to a job to get money then you better be one smart kid cause college is too much to trust your mother to pay, if she acts like this over a weekend trip how is she going to act when you use a phone at college? Just saying, my grandparents dont support my time usage so i can't go to.college now because they are giving me money, and i really wanted a future, oh well. :) life goes on. you'll probably get it back
Good luck - +1 y
They aren't giving me money**
- +1 y
Thanks. You too (:
she's probably being unreasonable with the whole "forever" thing, but at the same time. its her paying your phone bill most likely (your dad?), her bill, her rules
012 Reply- +1 y
Yeah. She's paying
- +1 y
Yes probably. But my grandpa got me the phone. And she has something against my grandpa getting me stuff so I feel that someway that affected her decision because I only had the phone for like a week
- +1 y
Well the grades better now. I just don't get it back
- +1 y
Well the reason she took it away for "forever" is because I went on it and then lied about it. While I had a bad grade
- +1 y
Yes. I'm actually very mature for my age
- +1 y
Well I'm mature about everything else. Just not when it comes to punishments.. Which is kinda bad
Wait, she took away just because you used it on that weekend? Or is she mad because you did something bad on it?
020 Reply- +1 y
I just went on Instagram and used snapchat. That's it.
- +1 y
My stepdad... He takes her side even if he disagrees so :/
- +1 y
If you have a good relationship with him you might be able to talk him onto your side and if he does, I think she would give you your privileges back.
BUT seeing as that might not work, try to do the classic buttering-up system, lol. She might be going through a tough time and is emotionally wired up? So take your time over a week or two. Be nice, offer to help around the house, talk with her, and most importantly APOLOGIZE. (Even though she might be being unreasonable.) - +1 y
Trust me. I've been apologizing. For the past year and a half 😒 the most I've gotten her to let me use it for is an alarm for in the morning lmao
- +1 y
I know. She says I don't get it back till I'm 18
- +1 y
16 & 1/2.
- +1 y
Okay, I have something you could try. If your mom has a smartphone, then you should continually ask her over and over if you can research about math homework and other school stuff. (Once school starts)
If she doesn't have one, try the same thing with your phone. But it would probably work better if you asked to use hers. Make sure you actually are researching about school stuff in case she check it. - +1 y
That way she'll get annoyed and just let me have mine back?
- +1 y
Haha thanks for the advice 😊
- +1 y
Lol. She'd probably like that😂
- +1 y
Lol thanks !
You'll get it back eventually. Hope you learned your lesson.
03 Reply- +1 y
Oh god I did. I'm not gunna lie to her or at least try not to
- +1 y
Thanks. (: someone understands
+1 yI think of you're old enough to drive, then you're old enough to not have your phone taken away LoL.
111 Reply- +1 y
That's what I told her. She said as long as I was living with her, she gets to tell me what to do
- +1 y
Well then again you're not 18 yet so idk. Technically as long as they're paying the phone bill, they have power over it.
I still don't get what you did that got you in trouble haha - +1 y
She's just mad mostly because I lied to her about it. But she kinda found out I was sexting a few guys a few months before that. So she might still be mad about that :/
- +1 y
Ahhh. Lol
Rule #1 when sexting: always delete the evidence when you're done, at least your pics cx - +1 y
Now I know lmao. Didn't think my mom would go through my phone though ahah
- +1 y
That's so awkward lol I can't imagine a mom face to face with a dick pic hahaha
- +1 y
Haha. That would suck ! 😂 luckily they weren't mine😁
- +1 y
Wait, what are you typing with? I see emojis lol 😈😈😈
- +1 y
I'm using my friends phone now haha🙈
- +1 y
Haha oh okay I thought you were being sneaky with your phone again 😂 🍆💁
- +1 y
Lol. Nope I've learned my lesson 😂😁
What's wrong about going on your phone?
03 Reply- +1 y
I got it taken away because I had a D in a class
- +1 y
Ahhhh. Well, the best thing I can think of, is try and get an A in class, because the issue isn't really about your phone or the fact that you lied. It's just that she was "grounding" you for something she doesn't tolerate (bad grades) and you got away with it. It could have been your car, your desserts, your music, a hobby, but it turned out to be your phone. Don't worry, prove to her that you can get good grades and that she doesn't need to resort to such lengths when it comes to shaping you. ;) Try harder!
- +1 y
Okay thanks for the help (:

A teenage girl does lol. I've actually lost a few friends just because I haven't talked to them this summer because I can't have my phone.
Anonymous(30-35)+1 yRules are rules babe
06 Reply- +1 y
She didn't make it a rule not to lie. And that's what she's mad about
Opinion Owner+1 yShe shouldn't have to tell you not to lie sugar
- +1 y
Well I wouldn't have lied about it if she wasn't being totally unreasonable. I just don't see why she got this mad
Opinion Owner+1 yIs the rule not to use the phone on the weekend? Sometimes it isn't a matter of if someone is being unreasonable or over reacting. Sometimes parents just want to know that you listen and respect them.
- +1 y
No it's because I went on it when I had it taken away and then lied about it
Opinion Owner+1 ySometimes it isn't a matter of if someone is being unreasonable or over reacting. Sometimes parents just want to know that you listen and respect them.
Is it odd for a 23 year old to get their phone taken away from their parents?
