Except marketing is the single most important part of a success business. They could invest in everything right, but if the marketing falls flat then it doesn't matter. If the product is just average but the marketing does a solid job, it will still be successful.

Look at the film industry. Dozens of terrible films make bank because they have a successful marketing strategy, others tank horribly for having a bad marketing strategy, even if they are pretty decent films. Literally everything comes down to marketing, even yourself, so there is absolutely nothing to be looking down at, instead it should be the other way around.

We have strict definitions for the foundation of language for a reason, to alter those foundations alters the complexity of language at higher levels of use. Only those who truly understand the rules [language of origin and pre/suffix] have the right to create new words and definitions. i mean people taking business classes kinda make fun of marketing people (not as much as people who do hr), but that's about it. personally, i think it's important, but it's kind of stupid sometimes. during my last internship, they had an hour long meeting about whether it was better to use blue, purple or orange.

It depends upon whether or not you're good at it. Most people are incompetent (in all jobs, not just marketing), but incompetence is easier to hide in marketing, which is probably where the reputation develops.

Brand marketing especially is ripe for abuse of incompetence. Direct marketing, not really so much.
