Here in Ohio, on Put-In-Bay, there is a really cool house that was made from the very front section of the bow off an old freighter that was used on the Great Lakes and is now positioned on a cliff over looking Lake Erie. Have been fortunate enough a few times to have gone inside (Friend's family member owns it). Has been modernized somewhat but still has a lot of the original appointments and woodwork throughout.
Yes, pretty cool. I saw these recently in a news review and I love these buildings too!

The fish is sooo cool. Where is it? and "the old lady who lived in a shoe" house looks a little too transparent for privacy.
Must take after The Crystal Cathedral in California.
Too difficult maintenance. I rather not.
A house like this will easily last longer than I will:
If you like cookie cutter houses.
I like reliable houses. And not those that require my 70 years old self to keep working on maintenance, because I wanted to be edgy. Form follows function and not the other way around.
Of course if you like the looks more than having a house that dos what it is supposed to do, then be my guest and waste your money on it. Don't complain when I will be laughing at your misery, though.
A stick built house needs as much up keep as a plane. In fact a plane is all aluminum and is made to be in all kinds of weather so it probably needs less - as long as it stays on the ground. If you are 70 why are you on this sorry site?
Bullcrap. A solid stone-house outlasts metal with ease. It's not even close.
And I am not 70, yet. My point was if you and I buy a house nowadays and you get your edgy one and I get a stone house I bet my ass that I will not have to do as much maintenance work as you will have to. And it's a whole different ballpark maintaining shit when you are old.
Hmmm, couldn't tell by the pic on my screen that it was stone. Are you talking actual, solid stone or just a stone veneer?
Solid stones as in solid clinker bricks. Shit's gonna survive a nuclear bomb.
Clinker bricks are not stone and can be brittle. But they look good.
Why not there are actual boat homes eg narrow boat...
I know, I live on one. But they are not that roomy, for say having a party. It's only like 10 ft wide by 70 ft long which is the max size they come in.

Not if it didn't still work. I have thought of just buying a house boat instead of an actually house though
I think it would be not only unique and cool but how often do you get to say you live on a plane or boat
Maybe. I don’t think it’s super secure. But that can be easily rectified
it would never get damage because of the metal structurally sound. But an easy target for burglars.
Nice to visit but that's it
a ship would be major fun.
Well you would have plenty of room, like in the one pictured.
would just need an elevator to get around
It might be hard to heat
Where did you think this up?
heck yea i would love that
Maybe a house boat but not as a main residence
I seen a youtube video on this. blew me away
Not more than 2 weeks.
Mayhaps
looks cool
