How do you deal with a deadbeat dad?

I have a dad who is a deadbeat. My mom had to put him on child support because of his absence in my life. My dad only came around when he had to pay my support. One time I ask him for a simple computer, and he brought me a faulty computer from a pawn shop. I asked him for a car one time, and at first he brought the car over for shoe & tell. When I ask for it he told me I had to buy it from him? Why do some guys become deadbeats? I’m debating if I should just act like he doesn’t exist and disown him, he’s an useless dad. He can’t even buy simple essentials for me.

I have a deadbeat dad also. My mom thinks he's pretty useless too. I just try to ignore him. Hopefully my mom and I can get away from him one day

Yeah I just disown him, and act like he’s dead. He’s useless all around. He didn’t even show up to sign my birth certificate or cared. My mom said he wanted an abortion. Now he’s trying to show up, and talk after 20+ years of not being in my childhood. I don’t plan on showing up to his funeral or having him a funeral. I’m just going to leave him sitting in a morgue so he can feel how it feels to be unwanted lol.

Wow. You're definitely justified in disowning him. Just because you share a bloodline with someone doesn't mean you should have to tolerate his/her toxic behavior. Even your own parents

I’m a teen. Sadly, with a deadbeat dad who doesn’t do anything. It’s either my mom or me. He’s just plain useless. After the car incident, I just disowned him. He brought the car over for show & tell, and soon as he had to stop paying child support he never gave me the car. A shitty thing to do.

I'm 16 too! okay, girl, look, your dad is a deadbeat, and I read through your comments, he asked your mum to abort you when you were a baby? that is the shittiest thing any man could ever do. And coming back to the car thing, I completely get what you're saying. Most of your friends have a car by now, but you don't.. does your dad have a stable job? does your mum have a stable job? how about maybe you save up little by little and buy your own car? you'd be proud of that, your mum would be too!

Well he doesn't owe you a car but he should be able to help you with rides to work untill you can afford one

I am a teen. I am 16 and I would hope he could provide for something or anything. My mom does everything else and hardly ask him for anything. Some people are just pathetic. I end up buying the car myself, and computer, since he’s useless.

a lot of teens dont have a car at 16 and I know your father could do better probably in many ways but you shouldn’t think he owes you a car or laptop. Its a gift if he decides to give. Iv hardly gotten anything from my father too and i dont think that could make up for someones selfishness
