As a mother, if you knew your son was beating on his girlfriend (you heard it) would you just ignore it?

First, that would shake me to my core because I would have hoped I would have never raised anyone that thought that was ever okay to do. Second, I'm kicking in the door and getting her out and my son and I would definitely have the longest talk in life and I'd let him know, that he will be getting whatever psychological treatment he needs to work through whatever is making him feel like that's a thing he should do and letting him know that if ever there was a next time, I would call the police on him myself. Ignorance is never bliss when someone is being hurt. I have had three friends tell me about their past violent relationships and knowing what they went through, yes, they had to eventually break free on their own, but there were several times where someone could have stepped in and they didn't because it was "none of their business," BS.

What a godawful position to be put in. How is your relationship with him? Do you feel safe approaching him about it? Tell him you've seen the bruises and heard them argue. I would NOT tell him she confided in you, protect her at all costs. Ask him if he would allow some man to do that to you?

No not even as a father if my mom heard me doing that she would call the police and get me A DV charge and disown me, i would never that mom must of set that example when he was a kid when she let his dad or other men hit her so he sees it as normal.

Not in the least. You can bet I'd look into it, and there'd better be a DAMN good reason for what I'm hearing. I didn't raise that theoretical boy to TOLERATE abuse, and I sure as hell didn't raise him to participate in it.

I’m actually the sister of someone who hits his girlfriend. She comes to the house a lot and I’ve seen bruises on her but I didn’t want to believe the bruises came from him but she opened up to me most recently while my brother was out getting everyone in the house pizza (his treat) and she told me he beats on her and that my mother (my brothers mother as well) had been in the house each time he has hit her and has even came out the room after he has beat her and never said or did anything. I work so most times I’m not home. My mother isn’t working at the moment so she’s at the house often and I’m in disbelief at this point and I want to help her escape and I also look at my mother differently just as I do my brother now.

Did your brother grow up exposed to someone who hit woman?

I don't know what he’s seen outside of the house. He’s a few years older than me and he hangs out with his friends a lot, who knows, they could be abusive toward their women and maybe he thinks it’s cool because of that. When our father was still with our mother, we never witnessed nor heard him abusing her so I don’t know where this behavior is from. He could very well have something going on with him mentally but the situation is just so much to even take in.

I'd kill my son with kindness. I would give him a big super strong hug. So strong that my son would try to escape my arms from desperation, as he is flailing his arms and trying to expanding his lungs for air but to only meet with a stronger hug, hearing his ribs crack because my immense love for my son. His lips turn purple as he slowly closes his eyes, I put my son down and drag him to my garden and dig a hole for my son to rest. He will make good compost for my flowers. Everytime my flowers bloom I shall remember how much I love my son.
