I would usually say “no,” because I think old friends are in the past, since we grew apart for a reason… However, I just got off the phone with my old best friend that I have known since I was 8. We had a falling out a few years ago, and we grew apart. She was still my very best friend in my heart, but we just couldn’t be around each of her. We talked for a little over an hour and hit it off well. I expected awkwardness and distance, but it was just a reconnection that was much needed. We needed to catch up☺️
Not really.. it’s usually super awkward. Plus at least all my old friends who decide to reconnect happen to be ones when we were best friends at around 4-8 years old for instance. How do you expect us to have anything in common with them? Sure I like seeing how they have changed etc and follow them on social media but as for actual messaging and meeting I have no interest and have tried it do so in the past. If it is a case of fairly recent ( been a few years now but not ages back and say you argued them made up etc) then again you might have some stuff in common but it will never be the same. I mean you lost touch for a reason right…
I have had it go both ways, where I reconnected with an old friend and after 25 years we actually work at the same place together and its been really amazing. He was my very best friend throughout Middle and High School and he still is today.
On the other hand, I have attempted to reconnect or had old friend reconnect with me... but honestly we grew so far apart over the years it seemed like we hardly knew or recognize each other. Or things that irritated you about them when you were 18, that you could easily over look in 1995 just manifested into bigger Red Flags over the years. With life experiences comes greater understanding of people in general... so you tend to lean away from people that bring you down or struggle to find their place or make peace with themselves.
some of my oldest friends are still my close and best friends, so I see them often yes... and it doesn't actually feel "old" it's more like those "timeless" vibes to it, I'm sure many can relate to what I mean
as for all other friends from childhood, my street, school days and stuff like that, yes I still enjoy when I run across some of them... and it's fun to catch up most of the times, done quick too... some of them I see often, others not so much
some even recognize me while I'm still not sure who they were lmao... some people do change quite a lot, or I just haven't see them in a long while
Uhm depends on the friend. There are past close friendships, that I ended and I would never try to reconnect again!
But then alsoo there is a "friend" from 3rd grade and we both are trying to build a friendship now and we both said it's easier for us to trust or like we started with a higher trust level, than meeting someone totally new, cause we both like know each other since 1st grade now and that's pretty cool
I totally get where you're coming from though I found this cool app called joiner that lets you spontaneously open your home to family and friends or join their homes when they're open to you.
Here's the kicker: You only see your friends' homes on your feed when they're open, not ahead of time. It's like a spontaneous, serendipitous way to reconnect.
Just recently, I got a push notification that my old best friend had opened her home. It felt like the perfect opportunity to reconnect. I opted in. We talked, caught up, and it was like no time had passed. Made me want to add other long-time friends on joiner I no longer see regularly!
I do. It usually feels like we just spoke yesterday, even if it's been years. Their voices are still the same. Sometimes it's great, but sometimes they have changed and we have nothing more in common. I recently reconnected with two very close friends from high school who I last spoke to when I was in my 20s. It was great. There are a few people I would really like to talk to. I wonder how they turned out and what their lives are like now.

Every year, I go to my boarding school reunion, watch the musical & fuck around with my boarding school friends and oh boy - it's an event I look forward to as soon as it is over. Last weekend was EPIC - a couple of us made it a weekend reunion because we didn't want to part so quickly.
I had a best friend for around 12 years and then we were still friends when I moved to my current city for school but never close after I left. We couldn’t see each other all the time and were no longer emotionally close to each other. I think there is no point in being casual friends unless the person is intelligent or interesting because you can’t build an emotional connection with distant and uncommon contact.
My husband and I both enjoy reconnecting with friends from our youth/high school and college days. We have moved away and typically get back to our hometown areas once or twice a year. No one holds grudges, we’re all just happy to see each other and catch up on the previous year or two. Feels good :-).
Yes I really like reconnecting with old friends. I just did a public records search a few weeks back to find someone who I knew like 25 years ago. He was totally surprised that I was able to find him, because he has a fairly common name. It took a bit of work but I was able to find him online and get an email address. We talked for about an hour about the people who we used to know and what we'd been up to, etc.
Yeah, I had a friend I hadn't spoken to for a couple years and we didn't split up for anything bad, we just had different friends in highschool and grew apart a little. I talked to him recently and it was as if no time had passed since we last talked years ago. Picked up where we left off basically.
I recently reconnected with a friend I had in college. I read something about her in a magazine so I just emailed her out of the blue. I was not even sure that she would remember me but she sent me a picture of me that she took. It was not weird at all.
Reconnecting is cool to reminisce, but always keep in mind that they may beva totally person than who they used to be. You'll have good and bad memories, just don't go in with the expectation they're still the people you remembered so you don't get dissappointed
I got old friends that I let go of just too much. One went to jail for being a predator so that friendship is over, Other ones had issues so I let them go too, Really the only true friend I had was one friend I hung out in high school, and I'm sad we never reconnected

No, there’s always a valid reason why we’d broken apart in the first place. All former friends of mine that I’m no longer in contact with have either stabbed me in the back by stealing my exes, sharing personal information about me that ruined my life many times, used me for money/drugs, or become friends with my abusers/r@pist. I’m happy with the friends I’ve had for years. I don’t need to welcome POS people back into my life 🤗
I kinda feel the same way as OP, my friends who care about me keep in touch. I have a ton of people in high school who were my "friends" but make no effort to keep up or catch up. Once I realized I put all the effort into it to get dry texts and hollow promises I knew where we stood.
Yes! I love reconnecting with old friends but sometimes accepting the expired friendship is better because there’s time I realise we have nothing in common anymore as we taken different paths for so long without each other being there
I moved around a lot when I was a kid so I never really grew up with the same handful of kids from kindergarten all the way up through high school like so many other people seem to. There's some i wouldn't mind if we happened to run into each other, but
I really love it if its my bestfriends... and they are really old friends from my school... and its rare thing tho... but we talk all old stuff that we used to have or do
I don't like connecting with current friends, not because of who they are, but because of my mental issues, that make hanging out a massive ordeal. Its high functioning, and I'm charismatic but inside its draining and isn't fun in the least.
i think when we do reconnect with these people we feel a wave of emotions at first very intimidating but as we get to know them better as in what's happening around with them i m sure we can get comfortable
