Should all parents be required to take Parenting 101 and get a license?

Seems like a good idea at first glance, but I said "No", because if you dig a little deeper, the question comes up, "Who decides what the parameters are for education and licensing?"
What if the Parenting 101 class teaches people to use corporeal punishment or other unhealthy practices? What if the licensing process is biased to eliminate certain races, religions, or other demographics from having children? Who gets to decide what is right and good, and what is wrong and bad? If everyone already agreed on these things, there wouldn't be a need for a parenting class or license anyway.
I think human population is a huge problem, but if anything restricted having children, I think it should be random, to give everyone who wants children a fair chance. Honestly, there are so many unwanted births, it would be better if we were all sterilized and if you wanted to intentionally have children you could freely have an antidote. That would probably eliminate millions of births every year.
Worldwide?
I think it's unworkable. What if someone refuses? Do you take child after it's born, do you terminate pregnancy? There are 14yr olds who hide pregnancies or don't even realise they are pregnant. You forcing them into classes or taking their babies?
If you build a house without planning permission you will be instructed by by to state to demolish it and ultimately if you fail to comply the state will step in to do it then bill you for it.
Not really a fair comparison of creating life to driving a car or building something
So you only get deadbeat/abusive dad's? Not bad mums?
Yes, I guess. I talked with my friends a few times about it and I said how people should go through psychological tests in order to become parents. I know it sounds cruel, but if people who want to adopt have to go through many of them and do interviews, why wouldn't those who want to have biological kids too?
At the end of the day, there would be less child abuse and trauma. Parenting is not for everyone.
Certainly wouldn’t hurt.

Yes. Children and family are some of the most important things in the world and people abuse them. There should be stricter rules around who can have children.
actually not a bad idea, if you see how trashy some parents are... Some taking drugs, don't work, self negligence, child negligence, alcoholic, no education or have terrible health, but breeding still works. Often you see the trashier the people the more kids they have
I don;t know. There certaily people that are not prepared to be parents. I read questions on this site about people having babies without getting married and don't think it is a big deal. Guys with multiple kid from multiple girls and not supporting any of them. Maybe sterilization would be a better way to go,
It depends. If the class can stick to the scope of fact that all kids need then that is ok. However, the class should NOT tell parents what ways of raising a child are correct or not. There are many many good ways to raise children and that diversity makes a better society. I would not want the class to become the instructor's personal interpretation for how to parent.
No.
The purpose of the government is to not lord over us like a divine, omnipresent nanny. The government is here to serve us and to ensure a basic amount of stability. Beyond that the people should be the ones to decide their fate.
Remember, we employ them and reserve the right to cancel their employment at any time.
You sure would think so with things some parents are like raising their children.
Yes yes yes. And you have to pay a small fee to keep the class running. Some parents are shameful.
AFTER a parenting class AND must be renewed each year!
YES absolutely. You need a license for a car, you better get a license for one of the most important things you'll ever do in life. And if you fuck up, society ends up paying for it. Just make a license a requirement lol
No. The government shouldn't be involved since many in the government are very immoral.
There were videos posted where parents exposed it at school board meetings. Some school boards have been replaced. The videos I had saved of it in my YouTube playlist have been removed by YouTube though because they support that kind of behavior.
Just like they try to remove some of the videos telling about how guys (trans) have been taking college scholarships away from girls by entering their sports and beating the girls in those sports.
Or how one school district tried to cover up a rape because it was committed by a trans person in the girls restroom at school and that school was trying to promote the trans agenda to their students.
More government regulations and oversight?
Who wouldn’t be in favor of that?
License no, take classes, yes. I would like to see incentives (i. e. tax credit or grocery/diaper coupons) for new parents to take classes.
No. You can dictate to someone how he or she should parent their child as long as abuse isn't taking place.
I think learning how to be a good parent is good but what good would a license do?
i need a license for a kid now?
How exactly are you planning to enforce that?
They enforce daycare licenses.
That dusty thing needs modernizing.
" In Santosky v. Kramer (1982), the Court noted that “freedom of personal choice in matters of family life is a fundamental liberty interest protected by the Fourteenth Amendment.” Further, the Court recognized a “fundamental liberty interest of natural parents in the care, custody, and management of their child.”
Custody of one’s children is considered to be a fundamental right, though the Court in several cases has refused to protect the rights of unmarried fathers. Parents also have a fundamental right to keep their family together, as well as to control the upbringing of their children. This includes the rights of parents to raise their children without interference from others, including grandparents. "
If it were up to me, YES!
No need
