Is a father singing to his baby rare?

Here is a father singing to his baby daughter:
Like that father, I got told that my father used to sing the complete ''Rock a bye baby'' when I was a baby. I find that so sweet. Is a father singing to his baby rare?

I sang to my kids when they were babies all the time. It was especially helpful when they were colicky or teething and had problems getting to sleep. I would often hold them and walk through the house singing "What room are we walking in, in baby's house?", my creation sung to Sesame Street's " Who are the people in our neighborhood?"

I'm surprised I still remember that... it was many years ago... my kids are grown.

I can't tell. Technically I'm an uncle but I would sing and hum to my nieces and nephews to help them sleep. While not the father I am the most consistently present male figure in their lives. Helps that I want to teach and generally and genuinely love people. Children allow you to be children (emotionally) too.

I'm sure many dads sing to their babies, just not all record it.

rare or not, that's really sweet but the end kiss was suffocating. covered both lips and mouth for too long a few seconds. I understand the love and affection but for a little person that's too long you can tell at the moment he comes back up

But I preferred him reading fairytales to us, I would always sleep peacefully after that, even though he only knew one fairytale and read it to us hundreds of times, I always fell asleep in the middle of it, still don’t know how it ends. 😄

I don't think so - unless they KNOW they can't sing well.

I doubt my dad ever really sang much. My mom, either. At that age, you don't remember, but... my dad was horrible at singing as long as I can remember, and he was always off key and either super early or super late. Couldn't dance well, either. Had very little "rhythm" - Also had little patience for me in general, so I don't see singing to me as an option as opposed to "shut up, ya little snot" kind of attitude. He rarely helped me fall asleep - that was "woman's work." - I wasn't to disturb his sleep.

Neither parent really seemed to like to sing, my dad would NEVER even hum, that I can recall... my mom would a little more, but even she really never seemed to appreciate most music (or outside of a very narrow interest in a specific style or era).

Neither seemed musically inclined. Never played an instrument, rarely in any choirs.

But I don't think it's rare, no. I used to sing to my nephews, especially when they were babies. If I ever have kids, I will probably sing to them. I occasionally sing to my niece. I'm not spectacular, but I'm not horrible. I can sort of carry a tune, and I'm ok with classics (remembering lyrics, etc). I was good at putting them to sleep. And when they were little, they would often sing themselves to sleep every night, so singing is a little more of a thing with our generation.

Nope, because I to my niece sang 1000s of times to make her sleep.
I even tried smelly cat, soft kitty, and more.
I enjoyed singing cause it makes her smile and sleep in a sweet mood.

It's not even weird, I have people who do that.

Yes my dad sang me songs but my mom did that more frequently. My dad said me bed time stories more as he slept with me when I was a child.

No it's pretty common. Singing is one of the best ways to teach a baby the sounds of a language even if the words don't make a whole lot of sense.

I have played and sang to my children years ago. I think it is great that the child's father is singing. It shows that he cares for that child. He might have had some good upbringing by his parents.
