My friend says that I should lie and tell false truths. It makes me a liar. How do people do it without feeling bad?

I know a woman who lies so much that I can't even believe the small things she tells me.

One day when her daughter was home from college, she told me a little story in a way with smiles and chuckles suggesting how silly her daughter was in the following;

Daughter: I want to hang out with my friend from high school, but not the other girl we were friends with.
Mom: You don't have to hang out with the girls you don't like anymore.
Daughter: What about my friend?
Mom: Oh honey, you only had to pretend to like the other girls when you were still in school. You don't have to anymore.

She said she made her daughter pretend to be friends with these girls so she could hang out with the one girl she did like.

It spoke volumes. These liars are trained to lie from a young age.

I occasionally tell white lies when it doesn't matter. For me it's more just twisting the truth slightly to make someone get off my back or make them happier rather than spouting fiction. Kind of like the compliment sandwich, it's all just about making the situation a win-win or occasionally a win-lose if it's in your favor and you're not telling a harmful lie.

After a while of doing it, you can feel numb to the wrongness of lying that it can sometimes become second nature.

to me it sounds like your nature is to behave with a go with the flow attitude. but in reality you crave lying

Definitely not a go with the flow. I use to be addicted to lying since I needed to to get out of bad situations as a kid. However, I’ve learned that it will bite you later no matter how well you planned it all.
