When I was growing up, there were four sets of aunt and uncles and their kids who lived not far away from us. Sometimes we'd all get together for holidays. Including my maternal grandparents, that would have been 9 adults and, with my sister and me, 7 kids.
One time, my mom's side of the family all drove back to Madison, Wisconsin for a reunion with her brother and his family.
My wife has a huge family in the Cincinnati area. She has 10 siblings and most of them are married with children. Her parents had a house, but they also owned a farm with a pond and a shabby house. They would have annual reunions at the farm with all her mom and dad's relatives and their kids. 3 or 4 generations. I went a few times. There had to be close to 100 people. It was beyond my imagination.
I have shit tons of cousins and relatives who are farmers in western Wisconsin. They have very large annual reunions. I have a standing invitation but have never gone. I've been back there a couple of times many years ago and met second cousins (my parent's generation) and a few of their kids. That older generation is gone now and I don't know the kids aside from being Facebook friends.
I haven't seen any of my relatives for years. I haven't even been down to the Los Angeles area to visit my sister and niece for a long time.
Some of my wife's relatives have come to visit us in recent years. Two of her nieces visited just last year.
.
Sounds like it was a big family reunion lol
Yes my dad's and mom's family comes together lol it's funny because black and Asians some of my family members can't stand each other after they fight every one has a awesome time lol there all kinds of food we play football basketball and play this Asian sport it's called kick thoght u basically kick the ball over the net u only can use your feet knees or head that game gets out of control but everyone is having fun all our grand parents are the ones in charge we all really only listen to them on both sides of the family we all have fun tho even with fighting we all still love one or another because we family no matter how anyone looks at it and we have the reunion at this beautiful park it's huge down cape cod there hundreds of people there I love it I believe we do it every 7 to 10 years we actually got one coming up🥰!
Sounds goodđ
We donât do full blown ones cause we are spread on two continents but we used to gather our North American group of cousins and aunts and uncles for joint gatherings each year or two, my family and cousins family are local and we had another cousin who flew over from America with her parents, I have not seen those three since my cousinâs divorce.
My momâs family have had two, but Iâve always found them to be highly uncomfortable events! I mean, trust me few things in life are more disturbing than a 28yo man hitting on a girl who JUST turned 17, laughing off âOh wow sweetheartâ, lol âslow-yer-roll, Iâd hardly call 2rd cousins ârelatedâ and especially not âfamilyâ, am I right?â
Oh yeah that's not good lol
No! It most definitely is not good! And Itâs not exactly like my momâs family are âMountain Hoogiesâ from Appalachia, or âHill Peopleâ from deep within the woodlands of Alabama⊠Weâre talking about New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut Jews! Just given my OWN life experiences, it boggles my mind to think about the REAL number of teenage girls who have been affected by incest in one way or another! Seriously, itâs terrifying!

I used to work for a company that sold uniforms and equipment to first responders. We also did screen printing. A guy came in and wanted to buy some t-shirts commemorating his family reunion. He wanted them to say "The Smith family Reunion" with the date. He probably ordered a couple of dozen.
So a few weeks later I am selling some equipment at a local police department. A bunch of the guys got called to the town campground because of a fight.
When they got back they had the whole Smith family under arrest. They were all wearing the t-shirts. I just had to laugh.
Yeah some definitely go that wayđ€Łđ€Ł
We did that once, too many people got drunk and started beating each other up, I was like 7-10 at the time, there were a lot of other kids there, and here are our aunts, uncles, parents, grand parents, going to the open bar, then basically going into a battle royale.
That was complete insanity, also the first and last family reunion. Turns out it's better to keep those issues buried, and getting everyone together and drunk leads to catastrophe lol
Sounds like lol
Yes and no. Never does our entire family get together at once. There are members of my family who are truly evil and manipulative people. They band together and have their own reunions. In my eyes my family is me, my mom, grandmother, aunt and my aunt's 4 children. To me the rest of my family is dead/does not exist. There are people in my family who have even killed out of boredom and got off on some technicality and I'm sure would kill their blood relatives just as quickly as their personal enemies.
I'm pretty sure they do on dad's side but, they don't bother to invite me and, I really don't think I wanna go, anymore. That side of the family's loaded with assholes and bad memories. They also think they're something special and that their shit doesn't stink!
As far as I know, mom's side of the family has never had one except for the time we had the entire family here for grandma's 80th b-day.
Yeah not all family is close family
The weird thing is, dad's side was always a lot closer with us but, so far, except for 2 or 3 cousins, nobody on mom's has turned against us and only a few on dad's side are with us.
Once my Great Uncle on my late mom's side, got some of the family together for a family reunion but some of us were left out and I never got invited so it hurts when there is favoritism my dad's side of the family invited us to a family reunion but we never went.
Sorry to hear that
@Brainsbeforebeauty Yeah, he was always sarcastic, ignorant his whole life, and a workaholic who made all kinds of money and rather see people struggle than help them.
We used to in the past and now everything have changed sadly!
People are losing these beautiful traditions and family values...
Everyone is minding their own business and we're heading more and more into singularities...
I miss those days where everything had a meaning and when life was simple and beautiful...
I do too
Don't really need to BBB, My immediate Family live all within about 40 miles of each other.. We are always round each other's houses.
How about you and yours, seeing as the question was on your mind?
Not really. Guess I asked cuz my father in law passed and at the funeral his family was telling my kids there was going to be a family reunion... But same thing they said when my husband passed, and that's almost 9 years ago now... đ€·đŒââïž
@Brainsbeforebeauty Tut. I don't know why people say that to kids. As a kid you really believe things like that. That is just so sad BBB >:D< Here's an old Yahoo hug for you.
My kids were 15 and 17 then but they older now, but yeah my younger daughter seems like she'd want to go, we'll see if they have it tho
Fingers crossed.
Unfortunately yes, his side not so bad, my side my family is nuts and a bunch of drunks that love to fight
I hate going to my side of the family. Someone usually ends up in jail
That don't sound good lol
My family fits the white trailer trash stereotype, but we are a bunch of farmers and no trailers
I only remember one family reunion my family and I done we traveled to Arizona because majority of my extended down there we each have a hotel room and I managed to give a great speech at our family reunion good times.
Ever think of planning another one?
I mean wouldn't be opposed of doing another family reunion of course I have to find a good location and send out a bunch of invites and I unfortunately broke at the moment, if I doing something like a family reunion I want to have the money to fund the big event. But I probably do another fr later in life of course this time I be the host of it
Plus I didn't planned the one in Arizona someone else done but I have a real blast
No, I've 3 brothers spread across the UK, I randomly bumped into one at a football match... it was essentially the same liklihood of winning the lottery, just with less winnings and a larger bar bill.
Sounds like you had a good time though, well till the bill came lolol
Not long back from seeing my Sister and ex wife,
that is as far as I will push family reunions.
đđ
I have no idea as I don't get involved with my family. Years ago when I was a child they did have an annual gathering of family, maybe they still do.
I don't see much of my family either...
I became norst estranged from them when I moved out and 18. As they got older I felt some kind of responsibility to make sure that they were ok despite the fact that they are still horrible people and my useless brother still lives with them but does nothing for them. So I used to go over every Sunday and cook them a meal, and sort out their business affairs. Pisses me off really because they are wealthy and have more than enough money to pay for someone to look after them, they always used to have staff, but they are tight MFs and got rid of them.
Anyway the last time I saw them was just before Christmas, then over Christmas I thought I had covid, luckily I hadn't, but all they cared about was where their Christmas dinner was coming from if I wasn't going to be doing it. That was the last straw for me, they only ever care about themselves, and I haven't spoken to them since and I don't intend on it either. My childhood is a long story too lol.
Sorry to hear thatđ€ my older daughter seems to be that way... Only hear from her when she wants or needs something
Only at funerals, when people you've never heard of seem to know everything about you and your too embarrassed to ask who the fuck are you
Right! My father in law just passed and my kids went through that, they didn't know who most of them were..
And of course there was talk of a family reunion, but they been talking/planning that since my hubby passed which is now almost nine years ago
Yep every year. Only thing t is now down to local family which means that there is like one other person my age and the rest are all ancient⊠haha!
What's wrong with ancientđ§ I'm getting there myself lolol gonna be 50 soon đ±
We do. I didn't go to last years though because I had already been planning on going to something else and had bought a ticket that was NON refundable. The reunion wasn't set as a date until later, or I didn't know what it was until my parents told me much later
No, because my family is so large and spread out all over the world, it would be a logistical nightmare to do it, not to mention that there are family members that don't see eye to eye with others within our family.
I think that's any family with the not seeing eye to eye
We used to them all the time, but after the grandparents (which were the core of the family) pass away the reunions just seemed to fade away to as everyone got their own lives to deal with and drifted away
Seems to be the case with families these days
I'm sure mine do, but I never get asked nor will I ever attend because they disown me.
Sorry to hear that
yes, always has... always will, it is the Mexican side influence, lol
Lolol
we just call them Sundays (=
Yeah I remember when Sundays meant family dinners
Sometimes, but some of my family is in Nigeria, so we do reunions with the ones we have close by.
Do you ever get back to Nigeria to see your family there?
Hope you do get to gođ
No, not since 1970 something. Now we just do grill outs and Christmas gatherings.
đđ
Yeah always do it each and every single year, and love it when Meet all ma nieces and nephews all gathered up together in one single place.
That's so nice!!
you know how lit those moments are dear :)
We have, I don't know if we will again, because my grandmother is over 95 and probably will die fairly soon, so there's probably not going to be a lot of large family get together after she dies, and that could be before the COVID-19 issues are gone.
We used to, the last one was in 2005 and it was huge
I think the family rented out the all of Jackson Park
I think some of the relatives still do, but I don't participate.
No reunions for my family. Nearly all of them are dead.
Reunions are not a thing in Australia anyway.
Used to, not any more. Families grow apart after a couple of generations.
Sad but true
Of sorts. Mums side, about twice a year. Dad's side, well used to before his parents died but his siblings are uncool so we don't bother with them.
No, I don't. There's probably one, but most of the family with my last name are located on the other side of the world.
We've only had a family reunion once because my family is huge
Yeah, we call it Christmas... About 50 of us consistently
lol Quite the opposite. And not ungrateful. 😜
I hear yah lol
I visit my family each year in the cemeteries.
Sorry to hear thatđ
Same here
we have huge ones like Amway conventions
Sounds like great fun
@Red_Arrow no the chosen ones... đČ
We did a long time ago, my Dad was the second youngest of 9. Everyone was old when I was around 12.
Very rarely, mostly during family marriages or funerals lol.
One side of our in-laws does - - - -
Do you attend?
if we're invited.
My wife observed that " The xxxxxx family is having a party of about 20-25 at Xxxx's house."
I replied, "So, they are just having the IMMEDIATE family?" They do have a large clan.
We used to but not in over 5 years now.
Yeah they seem to be less common nowadays
That's true.. Travel anyways, but especially with rising gas prices
Not that I'm invited to
Hahs yes. It's so much fun
That's good!!
Family is large. Long distance. Somebody would have to pay for all the tickets.
We have, in the past. Now, not so much.
They don't, thank God.
not really something i've ever experienced
We used to. Not as much lately.
No, we donât.
Don't think it's as common as it used to be
@Brainsbeforebeauty probably. We see each other, but trying to get everyone together for something other than a wedding, or a funeral is just difficult.
Nope...
Yes unfortunately
đ€Ł why unfortunately?đ€
Cause they get on my nerves with it
đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł gotta love famđ€Ł
Yes ma'am đ
Used to
Seems like families do this less these days
Used to.
Nah never in my life
Yeah sure
Very rarely. :-(
