My parents and I moved to Texas from Connecticut in 2018 and we're now able to see family much more regularly. I've grown tired of it though as there's no chemistry between me and them most of the time. My cousin and her husband and kids, I have good chemistry with and we can talk for hours. But my immediate family, all they want to do is sit and listen to horrible music from the 70s and get hammered drunk.
It's also a 90 minute drive to get to where they live and when I arrive, it's like I'm a ghost, they just want me there for the sake of being there. Then after an hour or so, I leave to go back before they get drunk so I won't have to deal with that. There's a ranch as well that we go to but it's 4 hours away and they do the same thing there. Sometimes they let me and my cousin's husband shoot guns on the range and my uncle even took me hunting 4 times in the past 4 years I've been here.
It's very pretty there but then coworkers soon show up and start getting drunk, then it all goes downhill from there. I work 55 hours per week in a job at my uncle's construction company but i don't make much and rent is literally 4× what it was in 2019 and continuing to increase well beyond what my job will allow me to afford. I'm taking steps to start a career in LE and I'll be able to slowly but surely transition into my own home by then.
The juice isn't worth the squeeze, if you can even call it that since I don't find enjoyment in spending time with them sitting down. I often go to the bathroom but after doing so, I go to my car and leave and nobody really notices. I didn't go to the ranch for Christmas or Easter. The only person I really want in my life right now is my girlfriend, I've even gone as far as muting all messages besides her. A medication change in late 2021 has made me much more assertive and ready to stand my ground and not let them manipulate me into doing something I don't want to do.
My family are all pretty good. My brother and sister are both older than me and live in different parts of the country or overseas. My mum is caring and loving, she can be a bit overbearing but it's out of love. My dad on the other hand is a bit average, 99% of what he talks about is other people that have nothing to do with us, and he never stops talking. He's a bit selfish and rude, so he's the main person that makes family gatherings annoying sometimes.
Yes- because two people I didn't know entirely has died and I only saw them once. No- because they still see me as a little girl after I told them I'm nonbinary and try to educate them the real pronouns. Easier tried than done.
I had been going to mine up until last year, when I was able to go to meet Barbie Blank-Coba (Kelly Kelly) in a meet and greet. I had already bought the ticket and then my parents said that the reunion is that day. I told them it's non refundable and I've been wanting to go. I may go to it this year, depending
Yes, as long as they are not too frequent. I love my family for sure, but have nothing in common with any of them. I would not choose to hang out with anyone if they weren't family.
I love family get togethers, but we don't just sit around, drink, and listen to old music either.
Next month we'll be going camping for a week in the mountains at 10,000 feet or so, have our atv's and sxs's and go riding for the week. We will also play lots of games, from card games, to board games, and lots of other things.
My husbands family, now those I don't like. They just sit around, eat, and then tell stories for hours on end... so freaking boring I often fall asleep.
Only with my husband and kids. I try to avoid the rest of my relatives and on the occasion I have to make an appearance, I keep quiet. I think they understand that I just want to smile, wave, and be on my way.
I don't know if I enjoy them per se. There's usually a lot of drama, and that can be stressful. But I value my relationships with my family, so I go. I think that for me, there are enough good parts to make it worth it.
Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. I don't have too many issues with my family and I have some cousins I love dearly. Not all of my family is bad but I have some family I can't stand like you.
