How can I convey to my family that I don’t enjoy coming back to my hometown for family gatherings?

I have a few standards. If I actually like the family members, I will try to set aside a day or two for travel, as long as it is pre-planned. If I don't like them, they are not usually the person that invited me. Its usually my mom and I am straight up honest with her that I don't put in work for relationships I don't care about. Then everything in-between I just blame work. My job kinda expects me to be available any time they call at any hour of the day of the week. I can push back, but it works to get me out of gathering I don't want to attend.
