If you had homophobic relatives at a family gathering making a lot of stupid remarks, would you try ignore them, get up and leave or defend?

Trying to ignore them would look like you somewhat agree with them..
Getting up and leaving would make them question you and talk about you behind your back..
And defending would lead to a nice heated argument..

I've done all three before but I think just leaving was the better option, I'm curious to what would you folks do?

When it comes to family if you don't want to nuke the relationships forever, meaning you all ghost/block each other and tell each other to F off one has to be wise.

Defending them could led to a nuke being dropped, that bridge is burned forever. Out of the will, etc... done.

Guess it depends if someone really wanted to try for a nuke or not.

My family though is very respectful and would be polite and respectful while disagreeing but I know others who defended and got into it and they are now outcasts who have been removed from the family fortune, meaning those who didn't defend get to inherit the family land, etc... later. One friend is all alone, has zero family and is struggling to survive and has no family support anymore. She has turned to using her body to just live and not starve. When asked her if it was worth it, she says it wasn't... should of kept her mouth shut.

No one is ever going to change someone else's mind, it just doesn't happen... so no point in even trying.

I tell homosexuals I respect them and care about them and like them but their lifestyle is not biblically favourable and God does not encourage it. I’ve met amazing homosexuals and I don’t hate them but they are not aligned with the original creation votive.

I would defend a little, but I'd force change the subject or leave before things get heated. My sister is not confrontational and she's not out to the rest of the family, so she just ignores. If she was straight I'd just let it go to hell over dinner, but I don't want to make it a big rift when she does come out.

I’d probably ask them questions about why they believe what they do and try to find the root of their homophobia, so at least I can understand where they’re coming from

Everyone has relatives who hold opinions they disagree with. I'd prefer not to ruin family gatherings with arguments.
