How would you react if a drunk friend attacked you?

Let's say you're in a public setting, and a friend who's drunk started yelling at you and calling you names for no reason, in front of everyone. Would you forgive them because they were drunk? Or being drunk is not an excuse for poor behaviour?

Verbal attack I would ignore them if they didn't stop after I tried to calm them down. Just wait for them to get kicked out if it is a public setting. Physical attack I'm just putting them to sleep and laying them down somewhere.

Physical attack, I can forgive.

Verbal attack, I'd suspect was them admitting the truth they'd always felt about me and it'd be hard to trust them after that.

I'd probably forgive them but wonder if what they said was because of real feelings and they revealed it because they weren't in the right state of mind.
