Kids, WHY at half my age do you all think you know better?

Its a needing praise thing. People want and need to be praised. As kids start to learn things they want others to know how smart they are getting.
In this day and age we set intelligence up as the be all skill. Kindness, respect, patience... all get dumped for the pursuit of intelligence.
And we can see the results are blatant. And many people want to stick out and show off and be praised as the smartest wo/man while they defiantly stick out as the most arrogant. The result is they feel important in their mind while everyone around them can't stand them.
Solution. Highly Praise people for being kind, respectful and many other real qualities that you find important. Say nothing to the arrogant.
I see customers come in all the time with children who have exceptional manners. I can't hold back the praise for these fantastic kids. And the smiles on their faces is very rewarding.
I think it´s a natural phenomen that the younger generation rebells against the older generation.
That would be less of a problem if social media and a self-empowering and self-focussing culture hadn´t come up.
Everybody grows up thinking they are amazing, beautiful and unique that way people have a hard time accepting criticism
Because often, we do. Although you may know better with practical things, like math, we often know better with generational things. I know personally, I am MUCH better with computers, and IT then my dad who is double my age. So honestly, it's not about age, It's about skill, and knowledge. But some is generational. With the fact that we grew up with technology, and people that are double our age, didn't.
There are too many factors to give you a clear answer, but the gist is, sometimes, we do.
That's a good description. I have some younger friends who should be good with computers, but for some reason they aren't that good. I was surprised by that. And i also know older people who are surprisingly good with computers. I guess it depends on ones interests.
And it's true for any other thing as well in my opinion, not just computers. Some people just don't care to learn about things, the world and how everything works.
And people can forget that times change. I remember my grandparents giving me advice, that would just not work nowadays.
@ElvenMr
Agreed, thanks for your input!
I do believe that it's purely interest, and what you do for a living. Like sure, my dad is an electrician, he can do electrical really well! Better than I ever could.
But at the same time, whenever he has a problem with his computer, he always asks me to help, and I'm MORE than willing to.
But, at the same time, my old teacher, Mr. Knox, who is probably over 70 by now, was super good at computers, and I would always go to him with an issue.
It all has to do with the field you pursue, and the experience you have in it. Although I am going into IT, I will always look up to people for help sometimes, I'm not perfect the second I start.
So yes, I 100% agree. Times change, and EVERYONE has good input. Even if they are 20 years younger than you, or 20 years older than you.
because some people think they know EVERYTHING just because they are older…
yes older people obviously have more experience, but there are different things that younger people could know better than many older people… and that’s just how life is
The older I get the less I like young people. It started when I was about 27. It’s hilarious talking to some kid who thinks they know better about something that you literally lived through while they were still in diapers or not even born.
didn’t ask

I don’t think knowing better is really an age thing.
i know plenty 40yr Olds that still live in the 16th century and have really old ways of thinking.
Equally some 20 year olds have not got a clue either.
Then you have both In each camp who are actually full of great advice you listen to them.
i never dismiss anyone because of age over knowing better etc.
b/c their opinions are drawn from roughly half of the experience you have.
younger folks have the "privilege" of seeing everything as black or white. it's only later that they begin to see the shades of gray.
nothing to get in a twist about. tomorrow they'll be you.
We are born knowing nothing and by 15 we know everything by the time we leave this world we realize just how little we truly know!
Generation after generation probably sense the beginning of time this has been true!
Every generation imagines itself to be more intelligent than the one that went before it, and wiser than the one that comes after it.” Orwell.
It's always held true
We may be experienced in things you are not. I have seen a women in her 50s act like a lunatic. Didn't know what damage she was causing but is surprised that there is damage after ignoring plenty of advice.
Sometimes age does not matter.
Do any of us adults no what the hell we are doing half the time?
*know
Your IQ is often more relevant than your age. I find that older people tend to over-estimate their own intelligence and dismiss younger, sharper minds.
I think I know better than a lot of adults cause I’m really smart (not bragging just facts). But I also know my limitations.
Probably because you write with as much clarity as someone half the age of a 20 year old.
Because often they do. Age brings capacity for self-delusion far more often than it brings wisdom.
There are things that young people know better, but not everything, and a lot of people young and old like to think they know everything about any topic.
yeah we do act like we know best at 15+. But once u add duties, not chores. I mean responsibilities. That's when shit gets real. Either u fuk up, or do it right. That's when I learned to earn my shit.
Maybe they think they are learning things we never learned at their age
And sometimes, we are ;)
I know my dad didn't learn IT and Computer Science in Highschool or College.
@Collinsaske it was offered in my school but computers were not that advanced back then and only used DOS , no windows, I’ve learned more now than back then and keep learning to this day what I need to know
And life experience is not something you’ll learn in school so that’s basically what older people mean
Yeah, and I get that, but it is definitely easier when you grow up with it and learn it in college. I'm glad you're still improving your knowledge to this day.
@Collinsaske definitely easier growing up with it , just like learning another language when young, I wish I had done that back then
Of course they Don’t know anything they have no wisdom no experience
I ask my nine year old this question constantly.
Everyone thinks they know better
Lol and even younger they seem to know the most.
Seniority does not equal wisdom, or experience
