Why would a friend take you back as a friend again if they genuinely don’t like you and are still holding a grudge?

Sometimes you can get in a situation where you can't make new friends for whatever reason. At least for me, I would rather hang out with my friend I didn't like than sit at home alone being bored/alone all the time.
