Why do people get mad at you for getting mad at them?

Have you guys had this happen to you? A friend will do something disrespectful and it will upset you, you let them know. Instead of them apologizing and working it out though, they turn around and make you feel guilty for being upset about what they did. It makes no sense! It makes me question my self. Is it not ok to get upset when people disrespect you?

Ya it's called reverse psychology. I see a lot of couples do that when one of them do something wrong. The way I look at it, is if you did something disrespectful just say sorry, and get over it, however a lot of people don't like saying sorry unfortunately

It makes them feel justified for treating you poorly to begin with. It's a psychological defense mechanism.

Depends on the person. Some people get mad because they disagree with why you’re mad at them, and some people are like narcissists, never wrong even when they are.
