Was anyone put off of the idea of having kids because of the sorry state that the world's been in lately?

With everything that's been going on...

-Disease

-Climate change

-Wars

The thought of bringing a child into this world kind of scared me.

But then again I look back to other dark times in history and realize that if everyone said "screw it, I don't want to bring a child into this" we wouldn't be here today. And bad times now are still WAY better than good times 200 years ago.

So what were people telling each other during the Spanish flu pandemic, WW2, the Vietnam war, etc? Oh don’t have kids and just wait until the magic utopia of rainbows and unicorns finally happens?

Personally I think the toughest part of being a parent in western society is protecting your kids from all the insanely twisted woke social programming going on. Like brainwashing kids about “trans education” when they haven’t even hit puberty. Seriously the DOJ was actively investigating parents who attend parent/teacher conferences in florida. THAT is the truly sad state of society. Much more scary than global warming (which I do think is real but NOT a true existential threat)

Now if you lived in the eastern Ukraine right now this would all be a different story. But most people on GAG are more fortunate than that.

I don't want to have children simply because it's not something I want, but as you said, world now is not worse than it's always been, I don't think this is a valid reason

I worry for the future but I also know that kids are the future so I'm not against having one.

I’m against the idea of bearing due to the millions of foster kids. Now that You mention it, I’m against it even more.
