Should I stop trying?

This girl I've known since high school has either been reading my Facebook messages and not responding or responding days later. She says she's busy but will post something the same day I message her without acknowledging me. She got married 2 years ago. Has 2 teenagers and recently got promoted which is all why she says she busy. Do you think it's just an excuse and I should stop reaching out? Or should I just give it time?

Yeah, to me it shows lack of interest, especially if you see her getting online, clearly she’s not too busy to do that. If you like her romantically does she know that? Has she said she feels the same?

Oh no. I don’t like her romantically I’m just trying to reconnect as friends. She used to be more receptive.

Oh gosh, I definitely read into that wrong lol. In that case, maybe she isn’t interested in talking as much as you are (if it is often). Personally with my friends, I’m at a place where I don’t need to talk to them more than once a week, unless they send a meme or something. It’s hard to explain and it’s no offense to them, but yeah. That could be a thing for her. Like unless you’re being direct about asking to do something, she doesn’t care for small talk. Catching up and all that would be better in person.

I wouldn’t let that define anything just yet, because it could just be a matter of how she is prioritizing things in her life right now. You mentioned that she just got promoted, so adjusting to her job could be a factor, along with having kids (especially if they are under 18 they require a lot of her time and attention), etc. Corresponding with you just may not be a priority at the moment. How you feel about that is a personal and fair choice. I know some friends that function fine with little contact, and some who need a bit more. Maybe it would be beneficial for you to ask about hanging out. I have a friend where once a month we get together for dinner and a movie, you could suggest something like that. Act within your comfort level though, and if you don’t quite feel ok with reaching out again due to her lack of response, then that’s totally fine.
