So it's possibly for a great-great grandparent to be alive when you're born?

A couple years ago, I found a video and a couple photos dated back when I was a baby with my great-great grandfather. He actually got to meet me, his then first and only great-great grandchild.

Then when he was on the verge of dying of very old age, I (then 10 months old) was placed in his arms. He still manage to smile, hugged me one last time (for some reason I was looking at him for the longest, then smiled) and the next hour or so he died.

So it's possible isn't it? For them to still be alive when you're born!!!

Yes, absolutely it is possible. My wife's mother just passed away last year and she could have lived another few years. Her great-grandchildren were already entering their 20s. And, by extension, I am 59 and, through marriage, my (step-) grandkids are entering their 20s and soon may reproduce, thus making me a great grandfather in my 60s. So, should I live into my 80s, I'd be a great great grandfather.

Interesting. I actually cried when looking at the video and pictures. It's bittersweet because while I obviously have no memories of him, he met me and got to spend that bit of time with me. I got told he died out of happiness.

Of course. Let's say every generation has their first child born when they're 20- early by today's standards, but not over history as a whole. In that case, your first grandchild would be born when you were 40, your great-grandchild at 60, and your great-great-grandchild at 80. You could even squeeze in another generation, if you lasted.

Yes especially if you're from a family that has kids really young. Most kids on our trailer park know their great great grand parents.

Sorry for your ancestor! It’s very possible. If there are 25 years between each generation, a great-great-grandparent can be 100 years older than their descendant.

100 years ain’t even the oldest age a person can be; there were some reports of a 600-year-old man, and many biblical characters lived to be such old.

Totally! My wife's great great grandmother was still alive when she was a little girl.

Yes, barely. That's five generations If each generation has a child at 16 that's 80 years.

Indeed. Nowadays it's nearly impossible because less people are having their kids at a young age. Interesting part is no got his green eyes. It took the 5th generation for that gene of his to show up... in me, lol.

20 years. If it’s 16 years difference, it’s 64. Parent is 16, grandparent is 32, great-grandparent is 48, and great-great-grandparent is 64 years older than the original. Green eyes are recessive, so that means it can skip generations, if both parents are carriers.
