Hey Dog owners: Do you feel depressed when you leave your pet at home alone when you go to work?

The question is coming from a cat owner. I am not sure if cats and dogs give the same vibe when you leave for work everyday and they are going to be all alone in the house, specially when they are the only ONE pet.

Or is it because cats are so inexpressive that you keep guessing the wrong things? I know that dogs are far more expressive.

I don’t live alone anymore, there’s 2 dogs so I don’t get depressed leaving him alone. Even when I lived alone I wasn’t concerned with him being alone I know he’s safe. And we have a ritual when I come home we’ll go for a walk no matter the time or weather (although I wish I could not go sometimes)


Now if I have to be away from him for an extended period of time like earlier this year in September I left him with my mom until I could find us a home, until I was working and settled in school. That makes me depressed. It was the longest month of my life because I missed him so much. My sister has cats so I still got cuddles but a cat is not the same as a dog, they don’t have the same energy, and don’t encourage me to be active as my boy does.

No. My dog is used to being alone during the day, and she mostly spends that time sleeping, as dogs do, LOL. My husband is able to go home during his lunch break to let her outside to pee, but he doesn’t always get the chance and she’s fine. I don’t feel sad leaving her alone.

Dogs get used to a schedule. She knows when we are about to leave and knows when to expect us to come home.

I have both, cats and a dog. My cats can care less if I leave. My dog gets upset when I leave. He gives me the puppy eyes. I have to kiss him goodbye every morning before I leave. He is so happy when he sees me pull in the driveway

I felt that way about my cat a few times. But then I realized pets have no concept of time or how long we are away from them.

No, when my dog was alive he was with dad most of day sleeping around the house. I have a cat now and she spends most of time with my husband since he works from home.

No. I leave them with music playing gently and a kong filled with treats. They can’t wait till I’m leaving to get their treat.

Cats are mostly solidarity animals, they don't need company. Dogs are pack animals and hate being alone even for short times.

I do worry about her, but she sleeps most of the time.
