My 79yo great grandma has just been diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer. She's been a heavy smoker for most of her life but quit around 8 years ago, is in poor health, and might just be at the end of her life. Though I'm devastated, I'm not at all surprised and saw this coming from a mile away. I feel like a terrible granddaughter for this. Am I a terrible granddaughter or is this normal?

Of course, you saw it coming. Most people would. But she's still your grandmother and you will never get to speak to her again after she passes. All of her knowledge and history of your family will be gone. If you truly want to feel better, interview her and find out everything she knows. Write it down.
Nah, death comes for us ALL! And I used to give my parents crap about thier smoking. Why would anyone do it knowing how bad it is! Well you grandma did have all the anti smoking info. Coming up. Who knows, 60 years from now your kids have the same attitude about your generation and roll thier eyes about why did you guys drink so much energy drinks, vaping, and do so many recreational drugs. How could you not know how bad they were for you.
