Girls/women - Since I am a Fatherless Daughter, I was wondering what were some important things your Dad taught you?

I've never had my father in my life as he decided to start a new family when I was only 4 years old. I have no idea what types of advice and important things a Dad teaches his daughter. Would you please let me know what I've missed?

I'm not a daughter but I'll tell you what I teach my daughter. I teach her exactly the same things I teach/taught my boys and I teach/taught them what I teach my daughter. How to cook. How to bake. Clean. Use power tools. Fix things that get broken. Write a thank you note. Say please and thank you. Be polite to people. Think critically. Read. Chess until they're good enough to kick my ass playing (that wasn't that hard). Grill burgers and hot dogs and chicken. Stain wood. Paint a room. How to wrangle emotions. That it's okay to cry. How to load a Nerf gun. Build Lego. Match clothes to shoes. Update computers. Carry on a conversation. Build a fire in the fireplace. Snuggle on the couch. Make great popcorn. Go running. Be a companion. Share. Make a great cup of coffee. Work through problems. Circuit breaker panels. Dishes.

I've also taught her/them through my actions to stay silent when someone just needs a loving human being near them. To hug if someone wants it and has asked for it. Advice only when asked for or if danger is about to ensue. To love and respect my wife. That being wrong is okay. That being right isn't a moral high ground or something to trumpet.

And, finally, that love is unconditional and unrelated to any good or bad that we might otherwise do.

Some of the things you mentioned I know because I taught myself. But things like working with power tools I know nothing about.
Your daughter must be very well rounded just like her Dad! 🙂

I'm a daughterless (wannby) father and, other than stuff like, never stick your tongue in a light socket, that's NOT how to get a perm! or, never chase after your siblings with a chainsaw, that's more of an axe thing, and other common sense type stuff, I can't really think of anything that I could tell her unless she actually came to ask me. I guess I'd have to be IN this situation to be more advising to her.
What sort of questions would you have asked your dad when you were growing up that your mom couldn't answer?

It depends on the father. My Russian father used to add vodka instead of water to the soup he prepared for me and call it the dish of champions.

I didn't meet my dad until I was 19.

My grandpa was evil and died when I was 3. I had big brothers. My uncles were messed up because of my evil grandfather. I tried to provide for and protect my daughters every day of their lives. We don't agree on much but we've finally come to a point where we agree to disagree.

They know I love them and I'll always answer any call for help and I'll come running with a gun or sword in the middle of the night if they're afraid of anything.

It's still not smooth but at least they know how much they can depend on me.

Sorry to hear that. Yes dads are very important in peoples lives including mine. My dad taught me a lot of things and a lot of good life lessons in my life

My father passed away when I was 5mnt old.. from then I'm my father.
