I encourage people to engage in critical thinking and reasoned though. In Guns, Germs, and Steel, Jared Diamond makes the statement "I think New Guineans are about twice as smart as Americans", which made many people stop reading midsentence and go online to decry him as a racist, which I say because he immediately explains what he means: if an American has a leaky faucet, they just get out the Yellow Pages and call a plumber (or they would've in 1996, when the book was written); a New Guinean doesn't have that option and actually has to figure out a solution for themselves, instead of simply having all the answers at hand. Consequently, their lifestyle promotes the development of more problem-solving ability, and their culture reflects that.

I'm convinced that a lot of the problems American (and western, more generally) society faces is rooted in the attitude that knowledge, rather than intelligence, is the way to solve problems. I don't mean to discourage the former, but relying on the methods that "everyone knows" without exercising your capacity for figuring stuff out and analyzing the world around you ultimately leads to misery. So I do what I can to encourage people to actually THINK.

I live the life I wish to live to see in others and push the idea of respect-for-respect, especially in those most worthy of it in your life.

I also teach children for a living and I'm a pretty dedicated teacher, I do say so myself. My patience with humanity has improved a little bit, by dealing with such young people. I also donate to Kiva. org every few months, which helps impoverished people in third world countries open their own businesses.

I wish I could actually do a lot to help the world, but my genetic shortcomings and medical conditions limit how much influence I can have on an international scale (which is to say, none.) I do loathe this though, as this world SUCKS and I wish I could do more to help.
