Why would someone unfollow you remove you as a follower, but not block you?

What’s the reason behind it?

I haven’t seen this person in years. He follows my cousins/ family… he didn’t do the same to them just me

I admit that I used to have a huge crush on him when I was younger. I think he used to like me a bit growing up but we were 3 years apart.. then in our teens he paid me no attention. I remember I was 13 and someone told him I liked him and he said “I consider her like family”I haven’t seen him in years but he follows all my cousins since he is very close to my family.

His aunt was married to my dads brother. His aunt also took him and his siblings. They were her sisters kids.

But he removed me as a follower and that stung a bit.. I still kind of like him but maybe it is weird

Esp since he didn’t do the same to my other female cousins
