At what age should parents allow their children to choose their own clothes?

For example some parents allow their children to choose their own clothes when they're toddlers or becoming preteens

The youngest age possible. It is SOOOOOOO good for them. It gives them agency in their life which has benefits in so many other areas. When they're young, you still shop with them. You work together on what to buy. Then, they can pick what to wear when it's time to get dressed. When they're really little, you tell them what type of item to pick out and they do that. Etc. And parental involvement decreases as they grow. And, sometimes (a wedding, a funeral, etc.) parents decide. But the child then understands that there are situations where what we wear is dictated by outside forces.

Clothes should NEVER be a hill that parents die on let alone sometimes a battle to figh.

They can probably start being involved in the choices as soon as they show some interest so they can be taught earlier than later what their parents rules are to try to avoid all-out wars in their teenage years.

We already included my little sister into choosing her outfits from the moment she could talk but I would already choose few options and she would decide from those options and nowadays she (9yrs) does it all on her own.

I guess parents don't want their children to be in trouble because of their clothes. Teens are crazy.

Yesssssssssssssssss. I have the opposite with my oldest. 22 degrees (F) and he wears shorts and no jacket. Went on a youth group trip skiing and got the management mad at him because he didn't have a winter jacket.
