if there's actual proof or solid evidence of someone's wrongdoing and not just word of mouth or speculation, then it's indefensible otherwise it's fine to defend them

  well again, that depends on the evidence.
  
  if a random stranger were falsely accused of rape and everybody dogpiled on him, do you expect him to stand there and take all the vitriol or should he do everything in his power to defend himself?
  
  with the examples you brought up though, yeah I can see it being indefensible
  
  why would a mother abort her baby after being 9 months pregnant and justifying it as if she has some other ulterior motive i. e. hurt the father, to cheat on the father and have someone else's kid?
