The last week both my mom and my cat who I both love incredibly had to go to the ER. My mom got super sick with lymes where she couldn’t walk and my cat wasn’t moving. I told two of my friends this, one didn’t offer much the night I told her except asking what’s wrong and hasn’t asked about any of them since then (it’s been a week) but she texts daily about herself. The other I messaged and told him and all he did was respond with emojis, a heart and an animal emoji. On both instances. I told him about my mom a couple days before my cat and both times that’s how he responded. Not asking why or following up with how they’re doing.
is this reason enough to just cancel them as friends? Like they don’t care about me so why be friends with them.

You want friends who reciprocate what you’d be willing to do. So if you know you’re the friend that more empathetic, supportive and should be there for them, then it’s fair to want people in your life who do the same. You’re going through a very serious, hard time and yes it’s lame that they aren’t checking in, offering to stop by or doing anything other hand think about themselves. So if you do cut them off, you’re not wrong for that and if don’t, at least distance yourself a bit.
Yes it is and he sounds like a narcissistic.
