As a child my parents told me I was expected to work harder than a non Chinese person because I would not fit in if my work ethic was not ideal.

As an adult I believe most people work equally hard because manual work is hard, intellectual work is hard, child birth is hard, baby care is hard, exercise is hard, chores are hard, surviving cancer is hard and being both good or evil is hard. I read before the pandemic that 1 in 2 Canadians would get cancer and 1 in 4 would die from it.

No, my parents didn't focus on that much. For me, I figured it out on my own that plenty of people are not willing to do the hard work that's required to stand out, since it's not a priority for them.

I don't even mean this in a "holier than thou" type of way, but everyone is different.
