If relationships suck, why does my father daydreams about walking me down the aisle?

I find that contradicting. My own parents admitted that relationships aren't what they used to be and it's sucking for everyone.

I'm a virgin (well I'm 17) and during a brief conversation with my dad, he said was it's better for me to wait and I won't gain anything by being a man's long-term girlfriend. He said ''You will lose catastrophically (he actually said that word louder and slower) if you don't use your time wisely, your time is limited''.

If relationships are so bad between the genders, why is walking me down the aisle one of my father's dreams?

He's been saying that ''one day I'll walk you down the aisle'' line ever since I was a kid.

Relationships are bad between the sexes today for sure, but we're talking marriage here, and marriage is a different animal. Women do NOT face the same risks and costs in marriage that men do. Your father is looking out for you as a woman, but I guarantee he would not be giving the same advice to your brother.

Relationships with assholes suck, relationships with someone you aren't a match with sucks, but a relationship with a match who loves you is the best.

Relationships don't suck for everyone, they just suck for people who sleep around. Hence why your dad doesn't want you to be some guys temporary shack up.

Yes not for everything. My parents are still married after 20 years but it's sad when hearing about other people that ended their relationships or marriages and it's not even about abuse nor infidelity but other things that can be worked out.

Your father is a wise man. As teh father of a girl, he knows getting married is the most likely path for you to find long term happiness. But if you were his son, he would be giving you very different advice.

Just about every father wants their daughter to be safe and happy. Marriage is usually the best way to do that.

Indeed. Even my father wants that for me too. Our fathers see through the BS of what shacking up is all about (the girlfriend to have fun with, have all the benefits, great sex, great emotions, oh he loves us but yet he never plans on marrying her... will eventually dump her) vs a man making us his wife, exchanging public vows not just ''I love you'' words boyfriend and girlfriend say.

They don't suck. Finding someone that you can be with for their or your life is rather like looking for gold in a sea of glitter. It looks pretty but isn't worth anything.
