Many people would have no problems fighting back against anyone but all of the sudden, a parent is so exceptional to them.
Besides being the person fathered or gave birth to you, they're just a person that isn't above the anyone, isn't above the law nor some ''untouchable creature'' or something.
Parents have always hit their children just for words or much less and yet if we reply back, it's an ''omg you've sinned, you should never lay your hands on a parent''. LOL. Why not? Why is that taboo?

I'm sorry I won't tolerate the idea that I'm suppose to accept getting hit because it helps us grow in character... lol
If my parents were to assault me, I would be defending myself and if that means hitting back so beat it.

I think it's just a respect thing. You know the old adage, "Don't bite the hand that feeds you". For me personally it would take A LOT (like a violent attack) to make me want to strike back at someone so close to me. Luckily my dad never laid his hands on me except once, and I did deserve what was coming to me.
When I was growing up, my friend Tom wasn't so lucky. His father would beat the shit out of him on the regular. Up until the age of 15 he was very skinny and not too scrappy when it came to defending himself (and his sister and mother). A week after his 17th birthday, he was already over 6' and weighed in at180lbs of solid muscle. His day was about 5'10 at 165. His dad came home drunk again, but this time after his dad threw a punch and missed, Tom landed a solid right hook and fractured his jaw badly. His dad moved out a few months later and life improved dramatically for his family over time.
What your friend Tom did is poetic justice. I have no sympathy for abuser. If you abuse someone for so long, they're going to either leave or fight back.
Don't hit back, just leave when you can and don't come back..!
