How often do you open the door without first checking to see who is outside?

Or without asking “who is it?”  So I was in the middle of a good rest when the doorbell rang twice. Then suddenly the door is being beat on insanely. I’m like who tf is it since all the important people have a key. I start to think its some roofing company or another person trying to sway my vote. So I peek out the window and see my cousins truck. I’m like wow he’s here earlier than expected. So i’m like “Dem is that you?” He responds with the name of a pizza place. I’m thinking, okay weird. Then i ask again if thats him and he says yea. It sounds exactly like him. I say “Dude I don’t have any clothes on. I’m just going to unlock the door but count to 60 before opening so i have time to run to my room lol.” I come back out dressed. I don’t have my glasses on so I see what looks like Dem’s height and skintone. But he turns to the side and i see a blurry beer belly. I’m like wtf. I suddenly hear “SURPRISE.” Man it was my mf daddy! I have been dodging this dude for years and he pops up like twice a year trying to get into my home. I was pissed he was successful this time. He was like “Can i get a hug?”. I said “No you lied to get in here. Get out and lock the door behind you.” After a bunch of begging he finally left. Now I don’t wanna answer the door for anyone anymore.  #FeelFreeToList

I live in a condo. So only people who live in it should be able to knock on my door and only BY ARRANGEMENT. So yeah I am quite off put if someone knocks on my door. My first thought it is someone who is going to complain about some stupid shit and do I want to hear it?

I do keep a 5 ft lenght of heavy dowel by the door - so don't push me too much with your complaint.

Maybe I should put up that camera. Those spy hole things are useless.

Some tweaker dude high on meth was banging on my front door at 3 a. m. for who knows what last year. I grabbed my gun, went to the front door and yelled at him through the open window "who are you and what the fuck do you want?" He said some name and said he wanted his sweater. I told him "you got the wrong house, you better get the hell out of here" and that's what he did.

Nope. My house is up a 1/2 mile long, gravel driveway, so nobody is supposed to be here unannounced.

If I hear a knock, it's like "What the fuck?"

I look outside through our big front windows for a vehicle. Then I look to the side at the front porch. I also have a peep hole in the door.

We have a sign on the door that says "No trespassing" and lists things like "No sales agents. No religious or political agents." There is a civil code listed below.

My wife knows to NEVER open the door to a stranger.

I'm armed with immediate access to a Sig P-220 and other stuff.

I was home just a few days ago when a van pulled up. Two conservatively dressed women got out and walked up to the porch. They must have read the sign, because I saw them go back to their van and leave a minute later without knocking. They were obviously Bible thumpers spreading the "good word". Fuck them.

We have a large, Tupperware tub for packages at the bottom of our driveway next to our well pump shed. But every once in a while, a FedEx driver comes up and puts something on our porch. I hate that because they cause ruts in our driveway.

It's not like the old days when I grew up in a suburban neighborhood with land line telephones, or when I later lived in apartments.

I watch my door alarm and video go off all the time unbothered. I am a firm believer in ‘if we didn’t set at meeting at my house, don’t come’ the Amazon people or UPs just ring and walk away. Everyone else assumes or will have to assume I ain’t home. Even though 80% of the time I am.

It sounded like a bad scene all the way around. I don't often answer the door at all. the dogs scare most people away and anyone who is important like you said has a key. If it's vital they can text or call me. I just assume it's some sales person who I don't want to talk to anyway.

I have sensors in my driveway that take a picture when someone pulls in so I already have a heads up. There are multiple cameras on approach to my house and two at each of the doors (the camera you see and the one you don't). On or by each door is a display showing them, and they can be pulled up on our phones or off the internal cloud. Nobody is getting to an open door without at least one person in the house knowing who it is, who they're with, and how they got here.

Usually never. A rare occurrence…would only happen if it was a smaller outline in the opaque glass door and I didn’t check my app/electronics.…. besides, I would usually see/be alerted there was in individual in a specific region around my house via one of my external cameras.
