What is something you wish you knew before a death in the family?

In the morning, I'll be driving home to be near my mother when she dies. She's been struggling with cancer for nearly two years now and she's in her last days. I've never had to deal with the death of a friend, parent, or any close family member before. I know I'm going to feel all types of things tomorrow and when she dies. I know there's a lot to do after she's gone. A funeral, tons of paperwork, etc.

What is something you wish you had known beforehand when you lost a loved one?

That life gets better and the pain does not stay with you. I have only had two uncles and three grandparents die, and only went to two funerals since the others were in China, and I dealt comfortably with all four deaths because I believe in heaven and hell, and to me, nobody dies, they just get transported somewhere else. If your mother is sick, her pain will end when she dies, and you can know she is in the arms of God. And you will become the main patriarch with new roles on the family and you will become a bigger hero when she passes. Paperwork is annoying, but you don’t have to worry about that when it’s all done. Your also allowed to cry, you don’t have to hide your sadness. Adults are allowed to have feelings and sometimes they forget that simple truth because they worry too much about others.
