Is it weird if at 22 your parents still pay for everything, take care of your taxes and everything?

i'm 22, never had job before or anything and no planning on yet. so my parents have to still buy me everything from food, clothes, rent, water/electricity, they also do all the paperwork & administrative stuff, taxes, managing my health care, all that (dont even know how all that stuff works honestly)

is that weird though? is someone my age supposed to do all that themselves?

Everyone is different. If you have willing parents who are paying for everything while you are at college or you are working a part time job, while you are gearing for life to happen, you are usually given some sort of cushion in your early 20s these days. I find a lot of people who had children in the 90s seemed to have this weird thing to keep their children young for as long as possible, whereas me a GenX, we were aching to get out of the house right after graduating high school. You seem to be in that age group (even though your profile age says 45+) where your parents likely think it's alright to keep you at home for a while longer. It's really an arrangement that is up to you and them, and is no one's business. Today with the cost of living so high, your parents are likely looking out for you to make sure you don't struggle without having the right experiences and security to be on your own. Nothing wrong with that. As long as you're all happy and helping each other in the house, it's no one else's business to judge what's going on.

You are 22 and don't know how to do any of this and you also don't have any plans to get a job. If you don't have any kind of disabilities, that's embarrassing. Sorry but if you don't have any disabilities, you need to get up and get a job and learn to do your own taxes and paperwork.

You will be seriously screwed if anything happened to your parents. It's time to grow up and start taking responsibility and time for you to start making your own money.

If you do have a disability that prevents you from doing these things it's understandable. My opinion is sorely based on if you don't have any.

It's not super weird if you were studying hard in the university and had no time for job, but now you should really consider finding one. You can't constantly be dependent on your parents. Technically, if they are rich, you can, but you need to learn how to care about yourself on your own. It would be better for you.

I think it time to grow up. I have classmate who at 16 drives her own car and works part time. She does her own taxes (via TurboTax) and pays for their own stuff. If she wants new clothes she buys them if she wants fast food she pays for it. The only thing she does not pay for is school fees and sports fees and her phone bill. (Before anyone start to assume she comes from a poor family she lives in the suburbs and is middle class). her mother makes her pay for her own things since the minute she (her mother) turned 15 her own mother (the grandmother) made her pay for her own things. She did this to teach independence, money management, and discipline and to ensure she does not have kid living in the basement when there where in there 20s.

I think that by the age of 22, you should be able to do some of these things by yourself. But since you don't have a job and you're not planning on getting one soon, you're unable to pay for your expenses.
You could at least try to take care of some things.

It is weird unless you are still a student or are finding it hard to land a good job. When I was 22 I was still in college and lived with my mother but I paid her room and board and paid for all my taxes and other stuff.

Not all but most you can work unless you are in college then that paints a different picture but a high school grad no college then yes start paddling your own canoe

but yeah very weird, if you live at home of course there's a certain element of parents taking care of food and rent sure but healthcare, clothes, paperwork and JOB is something anyone able bodied and mind can do
