Wwould you change your dog's name if it was the same as your neighbor's?

This is a story of a man who's dog has the same name as his neighbor's young daughter. The neighbor got upset when the man called his dog, asking him why he was calling his daughter. When the man explained it was his dog's name, the man then demanded he change it.

I wondered how much dog and human names overlapped so I've had a little google on the most popular dog names in the UK. Lists vary but the one in the photo an online newspaper comes from an insurance firm.

Closer to home, most welsh dog name lists just seem to be lifted from baby name sites but one source claims the following are supposed to be common.

Boys: Gelert, Celt, Smot, Twm, Jac, Llew, Mot, Cymro.

Girls: Nel, Meg, Dot, Martha, Cadi, Gwen, Begw.

Personally I think dogs should have doggy names but it wouldn't bother me if a dog had my name. However looking at the lists it does seem human names are taking off.

We had a neighbour when I used to live in another city who had a very quirky and childish name that I thought would be perfect for a dog, but I did not want to anger him by naming our dog after him so we picked a Caribbean name instead.

If another neighbor had a daughter named Charlotte would it be reasonable to make the same demand?

Nope. It is pretty common to find people having the same first name. It is also pretty silly to think the daughter won't be able to differentiate between two male voices.
However one syllable names are best for dogs and it would be easy to contract Charlotte without the dog noticing. Lotte would be best as it has a vowel at the end but the dog is already hearing the Char.

I think they are both being a bit silly.

So strange, what insights anger these days. I'd like to think they were both find it somewhat amusing. I strongly doubt there was malice involved with naming the pet.
on a sidenote, our pups have always responded to their own name and nicknames that they were given. We have rarely had to do more than whistle in order to get the dog's attention.

When I was growing up the guy across the street was named Harry. His wife used to yell for him out the front door if he was working in the yard. The whole neighborhood could hear her. We named out cat Harry after him.

but my dog was properly trained... and would respond to my whistles and calls, and not just a name... so I guess I would just stop shouting the name?

No I would not. I’ve named my dog, and it stands I named her many many years ago Super Buster she’s a Rottweiler such a wonderful dog,

I would not be in this situation. My parents taught me not to be an idiot and give dogs common human names.

His wife is probably a Karen and he was too weak to act like an adult and just responded based on her entitled demands. I’d not be looking forward to future interactions with any of them. You know that daughter is going to be trouble later on
