My needy ass uncle, how would you have handled this?

My uncle is very annoying and needy. He calls all day long looking for emotional support. The first time, I let him vent, but the second and third time he has called, I told him he has 5 minutes. After that, I tell him I'll call him back and never do. I'm not his therapist nor his emotional support dog. I refuse to allow him to trauma dump here. My peace is a priority.

Dang, your uncle sounds like a lot. I can see why that would get annoying real fast having to listen to him vent all the time. Five minutes is definitely being generous already. I probably woulda done the same as you after that - tell him you gotta go and then not call back ha. Family's important and all, but yeah you gotta set boundaries or he'll just keep taking up all your time. Maybe have a talk with him and be like "look man, I care about you but I gotta focus on my own stuff too." Hopefully he gets the hint. And if not, maybe just stop answering his calls for a bit so he learns. You gotta take care of yourself first. Don't feel bad about putting your foot down!

Some people are psychic vampires who will consume your time and energy if you do not stop them, and then try to make you a bad person if you do not allow them to drain you. I personally would cut him off, or if I answered give him a few minutes.
