Like say you don’t have any social support or friends just constantly by yourself
349 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. You start imagining yourself to be independent and valuing independence, despite the fact that, unless one lives in a cave, no one is independent - and dependence was certianly required to get them there, anyway. That's usually the first thing. Then, the mind becomes vastly self indulgent, believing itself to be the only one capable of true sentience. Objectivity becomes virtually impossible to contemplate. Communication skills start to break down as the internal communications of the person dominate their communication practices, and ultimately the constant pursuit of feeling they are better than everyone ends up reducing them to the lowest of life forms, with all that vast brain power bent towards generating only the thoughts that make themselves feel better about themselves with no cognitive "ground" to compare themselves to so none of the thoughts they come up with make any sense or could be communicated to anyone. And indeed, there is no such thing as a "ground," but collectively we create one that is movable but much sturdier than anything that exists naturally. Immersion in society is the only way to keep in contact with it, and to contribute to it as others look to you for ground, as well.

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yI’m autistic and have spent my entire life without a lot of social interaction, as well as my family moved around A LOT (I went to 10 different schools) so I never really grew up with close friends. High school is the most I’ve had with friends and that still was only 4 people all together.
Anyways, I’ve always been extremely isolated and I thought it was normal, that I just genuinely hated being around people, but I realized while I love being alone, I NEED to have some sort of human interaction, positive or negative, at some point most days. I go to the gym and don’t talk to anyone, I go to the grocery store at 3am and people aren’t there but there are still people there, I talk to my roommate here and there.
Coming from someone as isolated as I am, isolation will really lead to insanity. I do have a strong habit of talking to myself A LOT, more than usual. I was just thinking the other day how if I went to prison and was put in solitary, although it sounds like a dream, I’d completely lose my mind. I think when you spend too much time alone, you stop thinking rationally, and you start creating people to socialize with from your mental. Similar to hallucinations. Your thoughts become reality and a lot of people aren’t used to this, because this is the mindset of mindless drug addicts you see walking down the street. They are completely in their head, which is never a good thing to be. I think it’s important to have some sort of self awareness though. I’d never trade the alone time I have for a life constantly surrounded by people, though.10 Reply

Like when I left school for a few years and stopped investing in my fitness routine, I lost a large chunk of my original social network. When I became reinvested in my career, I found new friends, and some of my old friends became close to me again. When I invested in my religion, I got more invitations by religious people to social events. When I invested in academics, I ran into classmates at school that wanted to be school friends.

+1 yThis is me right here. Living in a secluded area after your wife gives up on you and your family and moves to a different state and you barely have any friends because you moved from one state to another and you didn't have many quality friends there either. And certainly not having any kind of date or going out anywhere in 2 years and 2 months. It definitely leads to depression. It leads to alcoholism. It leads to loneliness. It leads to crying sometimes because you don't want to be alone all the time and you're wondering why you are. There's a ton of negative psychological consequences of that.

Continually being alone carries two specific sets of ramifications --
-- you become exceptionally talented at kissing ass
-- and you become very skilled at masturbation

+1 yEven introverts need socialization or it can have negative consequences. They like to say loneliness is equivalent to smoking like 2 packs of cigarettes a day. But it’s such a weird correlation I think a lot of people disregard it.
For me personally, cleaning up after someone who was lonely has gone gives you an insight into their thought processes and in some cases you can see the steady progression into insanity. That has had a significant impacted on me and made me realize just how important my friendships and family are.11 Reply- +1 y
Aboit the comparison "They like to say loneliness is equivalent to smoking like 2 packs of cigarettes a day. "
It probably depends mainly on if you're alone by choice or by circumstance. Even if by choice it is difficult to rewire our biology to not produce stress when alone. If it's circumstances obviously you're not going to be relaxed and having natural deep breathing, imagine being told some bad news all day long every day, that's probably the same physiological response, and you can't argue that stress-lowering relaxation techniques would make a big difference.
Even worse would be living with whom you hate, in those scenarios it is impossible to utilize any technique to undo the stress, unlike when you're left alone.
Anonymous(18-24)+1 yI'm not always alone, but unless you're an immigrant, you need to stay away from me. And I NEVER open my door for anyone. I don't want to know anyone at work either. I have 3 pets. There are more positives than drawbacks. The drawbacks come in whenever someone on the street thinks I'm one of these stupid consumerist, Hollywood brainwashed pop culture zombies sitting around on weed dreaming of becoming a star... just like the rest... and try to approach me with some nonsensical BS. I learned some things spending time outside the U. S., and 1 of them is what works with devastating efficiency against American morons. However, using it would put the public in a panic here, though it's more common overseas. Just stay away. I'm at peace in solitude. Take your nonsense to your endless crowds of American fuckboys and e thots.

When you're out walking it, people will come up to you and start talking to you about your dog and asking you questions about it.
It has to be a dog you can love and be close with.
I like Jack Russell Terriers. Smart, people friendly, trainable. All around a good dog to get.00 Reply

I've done a lot to try and change my lifestyle but people just dont want to know.. And due to my behaviour around the men theyre soon turned off.00 Reply
Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yMore money, more peace, less toxicity from others, less friends and more time to find God Almighty. Once you have a little social contact every now and then you will be fine. The majority socialize with enemies... fiends not friends and they would be better off with more isolation!

You can tell because they ask stupid common sense questions, they lack the ability to socialize like a normal person so they lash out. l, they lack perspective. Socialization is healthy

481 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. Well you don’t have to explain your action to yourself. There is no arguments.
There is a difference between being alone and being lonely. There were times when I could be in a room full of people and still be lonely. Also there were times when I had the best time doing things by my self.
00 ReplyAccording to the Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research "Loneliness can lead to various psychiatric disorders like depression, alcohol abuse, child abuse, sleep problems, personality disorders and Alzheimer’s disease. It also leads to various physical disorders like diabetes, autoimmune disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and cardiovascular diseases like coronary heart disease, hypertension (HTN), obesity, physiological aging, cancer, poor hearing and poor health."
00 ReplyDifferent people deal with it in different ways. The more of an extrovert you are the quicker you will slip into psychosis. The more of an introvert you are, the less it will impact your mental health.

+1 yI believe your mental health suffers heavily, since seeing friends or talking to family are reminders that you do need social interactions. It doesn't have to be a lot either, but humans do require at least some.
00 ReplyI've always been alone. I learned to live with it. I see life through a sober lens, I don't have high expectations if any. I'm in my own head most of the time and have lost much of my social awareness of others. I used to stay in bed and cry nonstop, I just sort of cried all the feelings out of me. I will say, having a loving stray cat with me helps.

+1 yIsolation for long periods of time more than often, if not all the time causes depression, social anxiety, and social skills to decrease. It can even lead to insanity.
00 ReplyWell in addition to what has been said, literally death. There was an article recently somewhere that you're twice as likely to die as an aged person with little social contact.

00 ReplyIt depends on the person. You have to have other outlets if you are a loner. Go college take something interesting. Visit museum a write a book or poetry. Get hobbies have a journal. You will be fine.
