Pet I rescued years ago has recently passed away. Has anyone else lost a pet & due to it hurting no longer wants another pet?

I have a friend on here that lost his dog three years ago and said he’d never get another one. A couple months ago, his wife and daughters surprised him with a puppy for his retirement, he said it took about thirty seconds for him to fall in love with her.

I just can't do it. I can't take waking up to a dead animal it's devastating

Yeah had two cats that have passed currently got a kitten and a cat that's 21 and soon to pass

And you still wanted another pet? I just can't do it. My cat died at home. I never want to wake up to a dead cat again. It was devastating. The cat was going through things starting a year ago, so I did what I could for her. She lasted until this year, but I can't see myself going through this again.
