Who else thinks it sucks knowing you can't be a kid again?

My childhood was not perfect, and there are things I'd want to change with it, but there are things I miss. The days seem to go on forever. I don't know where all the days and even years go now. It's really scary.

Well, here's the thing: I didn't just stop being a kid, I became a grown-up.

See, I like onions. Sometimes I'll take one and eat it like you would an apple. But I don't like them on pizza. I wondered why, and thought it might be a textural thing; that even cooked, they were chewy rather than crunchy. So I decided to experiment: I took a frozen pizza and some onion rings, and cooked them together- and then realized I needed a second control pizza to compare it with. At some point in the process, I realized just how awesome being an adult was.

Maybe it's because childhood trauma forced me into an excessively mature mindset at a very young age, so I went straight from "child" to "elder" and missed the time in adolescence when most people grow old, but there's very little I don't have access to from childhood, if I want it. I can still take down plastic army men with my rubber band gun, and could in fact buy so many that I fire one shot and knock them down like dominoes, now (assuming they still make plastic army men; but Lego guys would serve the same purpose).

What is it that you feel you can no longer do or have?

We can't be a kid again, but that doesn't mean we can't have some fun... like we did when we were kids.

I do but probably because those were the best times of my life. Basically my parents trusted me and I just did whatever and went wherever with my friends. I used to ride bikes hit jumps go down hills. Get hurt, climb trees, fall from trees lol. Build forts. Days seemed endless. Always came up with fun games to play, water fights, tag, hide n seek, sleepovers. scary stories. movie nights.
Now life is so dull everyone is too busy and if you try to do anything fun or childish people act like you're weird. The days just seem so short and they just seem like you do the same thing day in and day out.

I believe a lot of things are not meant to be enjoyed like potato chips or barbecue sunflower seeds. They bring happiness but it is a type of happiness that brings suffering by increasing your risk of obesity or cancer or depression. I don't think I abandoned any healthy pleasures when I got older, but I abandoned the unhealthy ones, like worshiping money or beauty or attention or bragging and showing off.

You’re allowed to mourn what you no longer have, and yes it can be hard to gain more and more responsibilities as you grow older and lose the standard of living you had as a child as the world changes. Just don’t let that desperate nostalgia cling on for too long or you’ll never move on.
