She has died Monday, June 3 (yesterday) at a hospital in San Jose California at age 29. We are the same age.

RIP... I LOVE YOU CASSIE AND I WILL MISS YOU FOREVER!

She was my best friend on GAG and one of my best friends in real life for almost a decade.

I am so depressed right now. We corresponded almost daily.

She was too young to leave me like this :(

She told me Wednesday, last week, that she was going in the hospital due to internal bleeding from a hernia operation that she had a few days prior but it seemed like a routine procedure and not life threatening.

Wingatte was her middle name. She leaves behind 1 toddler and 1 child, both daughters.

GAG has lost a great member. I hope I am not the only one who cares.

I almost added an option for the opinion "I don't care" but it would make me want to hurt someone. There are some heartless trolls online sometimes.

I am so sad right now :(

A. Yes, I knew wingattebaby16 and I care and am also sad to hear the news

B. No I never corresponded with wingattebaby16 but I still care and am also sad to hear this

C. I agree about the trolls, they are heartless and would have picked an option like that. I am also saddened to hear this about her early departure.

Her mother is also broken hearted.

Cassie asked her mother to monitor her social media to let everyone know she was in the hospital just before she died, so if anyone wants to leave condolences in Cassie's DM (wingattebaby16) I know it would thrill her mother to think that someone cares.

She asked her mother (adoption mother) to contact me and let me know she was going to ER Wednesday night. She immediately went into a coma and never came out until dying yesterday. I am still traumatized. No one should go that young.

Again, so sorry for your loss and thoughts and prayers. While the outcome was so sad and unexpected, it is fortunate that she had the foresight to ask her mother to contact you. If she did not then you would have never known - which I guess some might argue would be better - but I would imagine you would not agree? Such a terrible set of circumstances but so nice of you to have so many details and thoughtfulness to share with the GaG community.

I remember her as a fellow San Jose area native, like you, and like you, also a generation younger than me. (I'm such an old fart I remember when the area still had a number of fruit orchards, although they were fading fast as I grew up). I had no idea she had health issues. How terrible, way too young for certain, and with two young daughters! :-(

Thank you. I appreciate every acknowledgment of her right now as I know she will soon be forgotten, but not by me.

The health issues were sudden. She just had the hernia surgery a few days before. He death was from internal bleeding resulting from the surgery which is not unexpected and sometimes happens, but not normally resulting in death.

Yes id seen her profile but not often. So sad so young. Life is so fragile. Sad for her two children losing mom, i hope they have solid family parents and god parents.


I have to ask what happened and really happened in the hospital. There are problems in hospital’s right now they aren't talking about how risky it is. Hospital dangerous place…

It is funny that you brought that up. She told me when she called the hospital that the female surgeon told her not to go to emergency but instead wait until the next day and just come in the hospital as a normal visit. By that time it was too late.

I feel like they killed her.

Here is a copy and paste of exactly what she said to me...

"I got an appt for tomorrow Thursday at 5pm.. the only appt they had avail.. surgeon did not want me going to the emergency room, unless i am in pain and having issues. she did the work and knows best what to look for."

I am so sad over this. This should have never happened!

No it should not, a hernia is a "minor" situation compared to what I had decades ago. I agree with the Dr. I would avoid emergency room and go with surgeon that did the work. but what if that surgeon isn't so good or missed something? I had major surgery long ago and ended up going to emergency room few days later. I never want to go there again...

I'm not sure they intentionally killed her but killed her by incompetency is probable. It is VERY easy for a nurse or assistant to kill someone right now because of problems in the hospital and you won't see that fact in any statistics. A keen investigative journalist... if they exist... would uncover a huge story if they just looked. There will be congressional hearings on such if gets exposed. Your Govt as it is, keeps mum...

. I'm not a Dr., I've just been worked on by them. They helped me solve a problem, so they do well at times. But not all are good, and there are big problems. What I hear, again, I'd stay out of the hospital for a while.

Anything could go wrong like... eat too much kale (blood thinner), meds. there's lot of risks. I hear of some successes in France with Dr.'s and surgeries. Maybe safer there... not sure.

Very sorry, this is tragedy to lose young life. She had 3 quarter centruies left.

She was having issues or she would not have called the female Surgeon about it.

Because the Surgeon was busy, she minimized those issues and told Cassie not to worry about it and just come in the next day.

Had she gone in that same day she would most likely still be here.

I guess you need to once again turn on that 'lightbulb' in my head because I seem to be missing something... how is that good advice?

Id want the surgeon that did the work to work in me again as long as id have dine my homework on them prior. Most any nurse line would say go to er and thats what i did. But i paid for it. Its a risk either way.

... so you are saying that the Surgeon telling her to wait an extra day and a half to be seen, even though that delay is probably what caused her death was the proper course of action by the Surgeon?

That i dont know… a good question for a surgeon. When i had the scenario i passed out and 911 was called… emergency… and it was awful. Was just dehydrated. If i had talked to surgeon and said stay home, id do that and trust them. Or call friends in medical for more advice.
But if knows bleeding internal… id think go er asap.
Have to be in scenario to know. I know i suffered unnecessarily in ER.
Did she have good support and low stress st home to rest?

As well i dont know the quality of the er department… thst is how I interpreted what yoi said about ER frombthe dr… stay out if you can and i agree. But its a risk.
Leaving the decision to a person in meds, in pain… that is questionable.

This why i tell people they must support when going to hospital. You need someone for support. Hopefully she had that.

I wish I'd got such question before all this, maybe changed her course in life. there is no minor surgery eventhough they say it is.
I had that issue and thus went through the questions how to deal with, was told I had to take the purple pill or else and only way to solve is surgery. I chose neither.
I'm sorry for your and families loss.

The kids are now in Idaho with their dad. I do not know him. Cassie lived in Idaho for a few years and then moved back to the bay area.

I'm glad they have an active father and hope he has support. A heavy load on him now.
The cycles of trauma grow anew but the kids will overcome as long as they have love and support.

It's a good reminder how precious and fragile life is.

I am also wondering - since you have been very deliberate with saying the surgeon was female, do you believe the outcome would have been different if the surgeon was male? It is so gut wrenching to think something like that might have changed things.

No, it turns out that her mother insisted she go to the hospital that same day instead of waiting so I feel now like everything was done that could have been to save her.

Your daughter was taken long before her time, and whilst I never knew her, I'm sad that I now never will.
it is said you can be judged by your friends, and it is very clear to me she had some kind and loyal friends, who are deeply saddened by the void which is now missing from their lives.

I only know of your daughter by her middle name.. so Wingatte, You are in a place where nobody will ever be able to hurt you.

I didn't know her but this is sad. I understand what you are feeling. I had a friend once go in for a routine procedure and died on the table. He was only in his thirties, and left behind a wife and kids.
