We used to buy lobster every year but now my dad is watching his cholesterol. I think we will just eat a normal healthy meal.

Actually no.

True story. When I was growing up I can remember my mother saying, "If you can't be nice to me all year long, don't bother to be nice to me on Mother's Day. It's just a Hallmark holiday."

She really didn't mean that, but as I grew up hearing it, I just assumed that Mother's Day and Father's Day were like Columbus Day or Flag Day. No big deal and so I never made much of them and my parents never said anything.

Suffice to add that I was in my 40s when I heard this stat that Americans spend about $43 billion on Mother's Day each year. I was astonished to think that Americans spend that much on a Hallmark holiday and it was only then that I realized that Mother's Day and Father's Day were a bigger deal than I had thought all my life.

Bottom line, I still send the parents a card for each respective holiday, but they live in Michigan and I live in Washington, DC, so to this day neither they nor I make a big deal of Mother's Day or Father's Day.

So I sent dad his Father's Day card, end of story.

My kids’ are taking me to a brewery for lunch and then they have something they are apparently going to surprise me with , so I am curious to see what it is, They got me a 12 pack of one of my favorite beers last night which I was happy about , but apparently there is better than that

Nothing in particular. My 3 kids live all over the place, not near me, so I won't see them. They may call or text me... that's what they usually do.

My daughter made him a cup from our pottery station, and wrote "Luv u daddy" on it. I bought him some cologne and a gold necklace. We're inviting friends over for dinner. Later tonight I have something special in store for daddy.
