+1 yIt sounds like your parents are super controlling, otherwise they should be seriously encouraging and supportive of your move out (!). Isn't that like every parent's dream? For their kids to move on?
Congratulations on making the leap! Well done. :D Just tell them. You don't have to explain. You don't owe an explanation. Just say you feel this is the next step in your life and you hope they are as excited about it as you are. Frame it positively and with enthusiasm.
I don't mean this unkindly, but I suspect there's a lot you'll need to unpack from your childhood in order to break the pattern in a healthy way. Therapy has a stigma, but I'm going to suggest you get a good therapist that will challenge you a little bit. It doesn't mean there's something wrong with you, it means that a lot has happened that you need to process with someone who is neutral. Boyfriends won't challenge you enough and neither will friends. They have a different role than a therapist.
You may find it hard to function without consulting with your parents. Clearly, you already do if you are struggling to tell them you've made this decision. I'll just say this: You do not have to consult anyone to make decisions. You'll make mistakes and you'll also have some wins. But that's part of gaining life experience and it's important. Don't let anyone take that away from you in the name of "just trying to help".
You'll be fine on your own, and your parents will be fine with you not there. It will be hard work to stay disentangled, but hang in there. Look at it as an opportunity for your parents to grow up, too.
I wish you the best. Good job!

+1 yI think it would have been much better if you had told them sooner. They might consider it hurtful that you've been keeping it from them.
I don't know what your relationship is with your parents and how well you get along with them. But based on the philosophy that you only have one set of parents in life, and they can't be all that cruel that have been letting you live there, I think you owe them honesty and understanding for whatever their feelings might be about it.
I would just approach them straightforwardly and with the truth. And I would explain to them why you haven't told them until now. Whether you were too fearful of their reaction or just didn't want to face it, you should be honest about it because if you can't be honest with your parents who can you be honest with?
Again I presume that they love you if they are letting you stay in their home. So if that's the case you should reciprocate that love towards them and try to make it as open and understanding a conversation as you can. Take a deep breath and do it as soon as you can. The longer you wait the more disrespectful might appear.

If they aren't excited for you, it would be weird. They'll probably be happy for you and offer to help you move into your new place.
Thank them for everything they have done for you and for putting up with you for so long. Tell them that you love them and will stay in close touch.00 Reply

+1 yTelling your parents you’re moving out can be a big conversation, especially if you’ve been living with them for a while. Here’s a way to approach it:
First, find a quiet time when everyone is relaxed and not in a rush. Sit down with them and start by expressing your gratitude. You could say something like, “I want to thank you both for all the support and love you’ve given me. Living here has been great, and I really appreciate everything.”
Then, gently bring up your decision: “I’ve been thinking a lot about my future and personal growth, and I’ve decided that it’s time for me to move out and get my own place. I’m planning to move next week.”
Explain your reasons: “I feel ready to take on the responsibilities of having my own space and becoming more independent. It’s an important step for me, and I believe it will help me grow as a person.”
Acknowledge their feelings and be open to their questions: “I know this might be surprising, and I want to talk about any concerns you might have. I’ll still visit often and stay in touch regularly.”
Reassure them: “This isn’t about wanting to be away from you, but about taking the next step in my life.
00 ReplyHere's a kind a way to approach them:
"Hey Mom and Dad, I need to talk to you about something important. I’ve thought a lot about it and I think it’s the right step for me right now.
It's not because I don't love being here or anything, but I’m ready for some more independence and to take on more responsibilities. I hope you understand. I’ll definitely stay in touch and visit often.
I know this might be a bit of a shock, but I really think this is the best move for me. Let’s talk about it and if you have any questions or worries, I’m here to listen."

I guess if you have a particular reason for moving -- like a job or whatever -- just tell them.00 Reply
+1 y"Hey, I really appreciate everything you've done for me, allowing me to stay with you while I get on my feet. I've given this situation a lot thought, and I think it's time for me to move on now. So I've arranged to move to a new place and get out of your hair. "
00 Reply417 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. just come out and tell them.
I'm thinking unless you do not own anything they might know because of the packing.
They may be hoping that you will leave soon so they can enjoy their alone time unless you provide physical care to them for health reasons, or they depend on the rent that you are paying.00 Reply
+1 yI'm sure they'll be ecstatic for you. All you have to do is say, I'm finally able to move out, and I found a place. So I'll be leaving at such and such.
Then you go on with whatever they have to say. If they say anything other than "OK, well let me help ya pack", I'd be shocked
10 ReplyWell are you really ready? Do you have a stable well paying job? Then just tell them you are ready to start moving out. My mother did not want to let me go. She wanted me to stay until I get married lol. I'm not religious and do not want to get married. I moved out at 33 years old. She cried, bit that's part of life. The birds have to leave this nest. I only live 15 minutes away from them. So we can easily see each other. I do not see them enough tho.
00 Reply493 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. . You be honest you can afford it now and you need to explore and experience life and you can't do it while you're at home thank you very much for everything you've done for me I appreciate you I love you I'll call you when I need money lol
