If someone sent you their creative work (art, writing, singing videos, etc) would you send it to others if they wanted to see?

No, if they shared it with me just to be with me in private as long as I didn’t get permission I wouldn’t.

I sent my friend a photograph I took and she loved it, came back to ask me permission to share to people which I approved. Same if she sent me an image, I respect privacy / rights of the owner. Just my deal.

I wish more understood this, my friend did this she shared my entire draft with her friends and added them on the google drive and gave her friend my poem for inspiration…🙂

@saraiiiio , yeah people need to respect boundaries. Your friend had good intentions though maybe… Your friend should remove them from the Google Drive / not allow them access to the poem again if that is your wish which you have the right to tell her politely to do.

I brought this up to her and she got extremely defensive and said I was being sensitive and cussed me out. The conversation went nowhere.

You weren’t being sensitive and you had every right to feel the way that you do. It is like having a house and allowing a friend to look after it for the night, then she threw a party trashing the house without your permission to host the party…. Trust was broken, you are sad, you are upset and you have every right to feel that way.

As a creative myself I’m not always ready to share my stuff with others. If I showed something to someone and they showed it to someone else and didn’t tell me until after the fact, it would feel like a betrayal of trust and I wouldn’t feel comfortable sending them anything again. I wouldn’t want to do that to someone else

And people think I’m not confident or insecure of my work but that isn’t the case, if I trusted you and feel comfortable with you enough to show you then you show someone else it makes me uncomfortable and feel disrespected and that you aren’t someone to trust.

Exactly, you’re showing these people a piece of your soul, you trust them. I wouldn’t care if they showed it to someone else as long as they asked permission first, just to show they do still respect the work I did

i am a creative myself, so i'd never do that unless they gave me permission. i'd never ask them to give me permission first, either.

Depending on the person and what it is, I would ask the artist before showing it to others.

Maybe say to the other that the artist isn't comfortable sharing it.
