Have you ever felt unheard as a kid?

I've been teaching kids music for a while now as a side job

during our breaks together and conversations, I've noticed that a significant number of them don't feel listened to or have their emotions acknowledged by their parents

one of the children mentioned that she hadn't gotten a response from one of her parents for three

consecutive days, It caused me to feel both concerned and saddened

Overlooked is a better word. If either of my parents needed something from me I was expected to drop everything and respond immediately. But if I needed something I felt like I had to ask 20 times to even get a response. It got to the point where I just learned how to do everything myself. Now days I have a lot of trouble asking for help from anyone

Story of my life... Still the same as an adult; I hate being in groups (group = 3+ people)... I can never get a word in, and I do feel ignored.

I was spoiled by my parents, they would get me anything that I asked for but when I got SA’ed by my school teacher they chose to look away and pretended that it never happened. They suck at giving emotional support lol Back then when I was still traumatized and developed trust issues, they’d shut me down and told him to stop overreacting…

It's common enough to feel that way as a child, with adults milling around making all the major life decisions that include anything to do with you. Many of us are also all too familiar with the adage @exitseven mentioned!

Yes I do... but who cares? I'm here to shout what needs to be heard until they hear it. I'm not backing down or feeling depressed because they don't care. I'll make them care.

Yes all of the time things were different in my house you did what your parents told you to do not what you wanted to do. My parents believed as long as you lived under their roof you did what you was told end of discussion

Always.  I don't think it was intentionally meant, but as a result I tend to keep my mouth shut now as an adult, because I feel no-one will listen

Im a teacher and ik EXACTLY what you're talking about. I wanted to punch this parent in the face a meet the teacher night and she was on her phone the WHOLE time and this kid was TROUBLED and needed intervention and counseling. I eas so angry, frustrated and just felt dead inside that i was so impotent to help. I think about him from time to time and wonder how he turned out... 😥
