What do you think accounts for the differences?

My dad's a highly-educated & brilliant military tactician who gained tons of respect & admiration while my mom's a hard-working professional with a respectable educational background.

Together, they successfully raised three kids (but not without numerous occasional troubles) and sheltered the entire family in a modest suburban home that had lots of fun things to do and activities to indulge in together.

They've amassed great wealth and responsibly shared it with us, relatives and communities.

Our weekend activities and vacations were often envied by others.

I have my parents to thank for the inspiration and the support.

They and my siblings (two also successful older brothers) are well aware of my successes & growing net worth that have surpassed all of theirs combined.

Unfortunately, my husband & I don't have offsprings since I cannot conceive & bear children but we share our love with a large household full of furry, feathery, scaly pets we call our children.

Whatever dad & mom provided when we were their kids, my husband & I multiplied those for our enjoyment (and everyone else's) many times more.

As much as possible, we go on adventures altogether to keep old traditions alive & kicking.

As a 22 year old woman, I am certainly not better off than my parents in every single of those topics listed.

Both my parents have a university degree - I am still studying to get one. Again, economically, I am depending on my parents for financial support. Assets are way more than enough for my parents and none for me since I don't work on a side job. Status? I could not care about status and I know that my parents don't give a hoot about status as well.

Being single and intending to remain that way for the next 40+ years, I have no such thing as, my in-laws, thus again a big defeat compared to my parents.

As for the house, I do not want to own a house as I grew up in one and don't want to spend my time living in a house where I use 10% of the rooms only because the house is too big for my little self.

Car? I don't own a car and my parents do own cars. I own a bike and so do my parents.

As for the vacation, thanks to my grandfather that was an airline pilot, I have seen a number of countries during my childhood that many adults will never see their entire life.

To sum up: Parents 7, me 1. I am the clear loser here and it is good like that.

I'm first generation American so that's not exactly the standard but I certainly grew up in better conditions than my parents. I was an upper middle class kid and my parents came from 2 very different types of poor from different countries.

They're both college educated though (mother went to ivy League for her master's) so I'd say we have been afforded roughly the same opportunities though college was and is free for me from military service.

I think the big discrepancy is obviously housing. I don't even think that the prices and rates are that outrageous compared to the very high rates of 1980 (although it is worse overall), it's rent. Rent is absolutely insane and takes up so much of people my age's income. My personal situation is completely fine though and my parents are an obvious contributing factor.

The only difference I really think is that they lived the "American dream" and my siblings/generation is just sort of the end result.

The only thing my father had that I didn't was vacations. i had years at a time with no vacations.  I just retired 3 weeks ago but I had not had a vacation for 4 years

no. sure we make more money now by the illusion of things. but now prices are overinflated so it doesn't even matter how much you make.

the way i see the world, everyone now has to wait to get married, wait to have children, wait to buy a house, even more so than when our parents did who did all of that easily before the age of like 24...

and vacations? where? when? who? nope.

- money wise ❌ my net worth is 0 euros. my dad is pretty wealthy and my mom is middle class (though she used to make above 6 figures before i was born)

- edu❌ i'm a hs dropout, only have my middle school diploma and a fancy german certification. i'm studying for my ged rn (and probably will go to uni after). both my parents did 4-5 years in uni, then went to grad school

- assets owned ❌ i own officially no assets unless obv you count objects. but my parents own way more than me obviously

- status ❌ i'm jobless and a dropout with no money and rely on my parents at my age. so it's pretty low, my parents have a much higher one

- career ❌ never had a job before in my life unless you count doing paid surveys for money. my dad is a successful businessman and my mom is currently unemployed and in reconversion, but she used to work in advertising (the 6 figure thing), then reconverted to working for the european union, before freelancin? for the us democratic party

- loving in laws ❌ i'm single so very far from being married and having loving in laws

- house/cars ❌ i dont own anything like that

- vacations ❌ i've never been on vacations without at least one of my parents unless you count summer camps i've been shipped off too or being sent to other family member's houses. my mom goes on vacations solo all the time and has travelled around the world when she was younger, and my dad has been to some pretty cool places in his youth, so no comparison

so basically i'm a failure compared to them lol (and compared to most people too fml..) but because i'm just 23 even if i was really living it up compared to most people my age i'd still wouldn't be on their level. as for why i'm such a loser, it's cause i was a dumb rebellious teen that got kicked out of schools and didn't even pick up a book to study cause i couldnt care less, and i had (and have) severe mental issues.

I'd say I'm mostly better off. The areas I'm worse off would be career (I don't really have one), and I suppose to the extent that matters for status, probably status as well and house/cars as I've never owned a home and I don't have a car. But I'm probably doing better in the rest of the ways listed.
