Is it okay for parents to read their teenagers' texts and social media messages?

For the most part I don’t think it’s ok. Yes, parents are entitled to protecting their children and if they feel like something is wrong or worrisome then I’d say it’s grounds to check their texts/social media. But just in general or for the heck of it I don’t think it’s ok. Teens should also be allowed privacy, especially as they get older. Someone can be a looming parent if they want to, demanding to check texts and social media, but it will only drive a wedge between them and their kid, that sense of trust will quickly evaporate.

This world is capable of doing much worse things, than anything compared to what your parents will ever do to you.

Your parents (In most cases) are your greatest shield. I don't know how this generation got so stupid, that it started perceiving the Shield as Barrier in life.

Make good decisions and win their trust, and they will grant you freedom to do, anything and everything.
