Why do people throw a fit when you can't help them?

I have a friend that wants me to take him somewhere because he has no car. It's like 10 minutes up the road from him, but an hour away from me. I'm like dude call a fucking Uber. Then I know he's going to throw a fit because I won't take him. There's so many people like this nowadays that can't accept no for an answer. Why? Damn narcissists

He's a friend you say? I had people like that in my life several years ago too.. Not any more.. I have genuine friends who look out for me, and vice versa!
I suggest if you have anyone like that in your life, study them and be rid of the rest!

So let the asshole throw a fit that you did not come to his call. Tell him you are not UBER or any other car service and to find another way to get where he is going that does not involve you. You might find out that he is not the guy you want!

Probably because they need help, they're desperate because they need help, and they're panicking because they can't find help. It seems like a pretty normal human reaction to extreme stress.

That's a perfectly reasonable thing for you to do. If your friends throw a fit after you've given them a perfectly reasonable easy solution… Maybe it's time you eliminated that particular person from your friend group. because throwing a fit after somebody gives you a perfectly reasonable solution, is childish and immature.
