Is my cousin overreacting?

My cousin has an elementary school age daughter. To the best of my knowledge, she hasn't spent a day in a school. She still gets educated; my cousin no longer works to keep her daughter up to date in education. The reason her daughter doesn't go to a school is because my cousin is afraid of school shootings. Granted, they rarely happen in elementary school, but it's still a possibility. Is my cousin being unreasonable and overreacting to the fear of a school shooting taking place at her daughter's school?

P. S. This isn't in a reaction to the recent shooting in the GA school. My cousin made this decision after the Parkland shooting. However, I chose to ask this question while people can actually remember that school shootings still happen.

I hesitantly say yes over reacting if that's her only reason for with holding her child from school. It's probably not good for the child as we can't live life in fear.

Here in UK there were terrorist attacks that blew up buses. Are people still using buses? Yes. Of course.

It's horrible. That bad things happen. But you just can't hide away from it. And you can't even protect your love ones always.

If she has other reasons too and ultimately it's her choice and she is doing everything right to socialise as well as educate then it's also not bad to go against the norm of society. I took my youngest out of school to home educate because the school system is failing and having an adverse effect on my children's mental health.

Being shot and killed is the leading cause of death for children even if it's not likely it is happening way too frequently. If she's home educating her, it is a little extreme, but she is doing her best to keep her kids safe, and that's not overreacting in my opinion. Especially if she can educate them or get them home schooled properly.

Yes, but it is natural due to the way the MSM presents everything. Any tragedy is horrible, but the MSM makes it seem like it's just a matter of time till it happens to you, whether it's school shooting, rape, gang violence, or anything else. Yes, be cautious, but paranoia is not warranted.

I hope when her daughter is old enough she will be allowed to decide on her own. Homeschooling is so isolating

In any school, yeah. It happens every year. Molestation, abuse, rape etc. Are much more likely than a school shooting.

I know a rape can destroy your life, it's why my sister is hypersexual. However, you can still function after bring raped. If you're killed, there's no chsbbd to recover.

When you're dead, your problems are over and your suffering is over. When you're raped, you're not only unlikely to get justice but that shit stays with you for life, especially if they give you an std or seriously injured you. From personal experience, I'd rather have died years ago.
