How much privacy did you have in highschool?

I actually lucked out with this because my parents had a studio apartment that was built above their garage. It was gonna be my dad's man cave but was turned into a guest apartment/mother in law type thing.

As soon as my brother moved to college, I moved out above the garage and that became my little apartment out back. Not that I was bad in highschool or anything. I never rebelled too much but it was nice having a space of privacy like that.

How much privacy did you have in highschool?

Not bad, but it of course wasn’t enough, haha.

I had my own room, but it was right across from my mom’s room and my dad’s room was at the end of the hall (my dad snores, so he had to have his own room, lmfao), so it wasn’t good in terms of noise. Like I’d play music and they’d complain, so that was a problem sometime. We also had a dog that went NUTS at even just the sound of my key going in the door, so it was tough to sneak in late. I started going out my window when I switched rooms with my mom, and there was a built-in shed that I was right over the roof of, and it was short, so it was easy to climb back up. Then if the dog went crazy they weren’t looking in my room, or I had enough time to get in and look like I’d been there all the while.

We did have a finished laundry room in the basement, where I set up a TV and a VCR (lmao, old as fuck), my Sega console, etc. So I kind of had some space to myself, which was good.

The biggest issue was my mom would tear up my room like the fuckin’ cops if she was mad at me and suspected I was up to no good. JUST LIKE the cops, in that they don’t say sorry and clean up for you if they don’t find anything, lmao. I’d still get yelled at, then she’d tell me to straighten up my room🙄😂 Or even worse, she’d just decide to rearrange my room, for aesthetic purposes, which I’m not sure if that was just another faux-search warrant she granted to herself or not, haha. And I’d complain, but she was on that “this is MY house, not yours; that’s MY room, not yours; someday when you pay for it yourself you can have your own place, but until then, I reserve the right to move or reorganize anything under MY roof” bullshit.

But she was at least pretty good about not barging in or anything like that, at least. My dad more “got it” and didn’t mess with me, but my mom was overbearing as hell, determined to flawlessly raise the one child she was given.

I was always dreaming about a situation like yours, ever since Mike Seaver (Kirk Cameron) had that sweet apartment over his parents’ garage on Growing Pains…

Mandy... I grew up in a house with 9 other people... I didn't have my own room until I was 18 or 19. I didn't lose my virginity till I was 19, and I didn't move out till I was 21...

So in highschool zero privacy, which sucked because I always wanted to play guitar, do other things that I needed space, etc

Age 19 to 21 when Mike was deflowered I would safely say 8 of the 9 other people almost caught me or caught me having sex. This is why Im not big on public sex... Some people are turned on by the fear of getting caught... I've been caught, it's not fun!!!

Not much unless I left the house. Which was hard to do with strict folks, I had to be sneaky about it. I had my own bedroom directly across from my parents room, I wasn’t allowed to shut the bedroom door if I had any devices in my room like a phone or laptop. When showering in the bathroom, almost everyday my mom would help herself to coming in and using the toilet while I’m showering. If I was in the living room or kitchen I was interrupted 90% of the time and asked to do things rather than being allowed to do whatever I was doing, including when making food.

I had my own room but my parents had a rule that I had to keep the door open for a long time. That all changed when my younger sister decided to be mischievous and would trash my room while I was at school or not home. I was granted a keyless entry lock that only me and my parents knew the combination to. I don’t know why but when family friends little kids came over they would also trash my room so that lock was definitely needed. I don’t know what excitement they got doing that but it got annoying fast.

Very little privacy. Had a parent that would rummage through our draws, had no trust in us, would accuse of us of things that weren't happening. It was quite frustrating. At one point my dad was using listening devices to here what we were talking about if I was on my cell phone. That was when I was 19, paying rent, my own car, insurance, my own basic ole but amazing Nokia phone with 300 min lol.

All kinds, I was a latchkey child. My parents worked nights and I had two older brothers that no longer lived at home. By the time I got home school, the entire house was at my disposal! Sex, drugs and rock-n-roll, my lovely Mandy. I wish I knew you back then, we could have had some memorable nights. I definitely could have made you good meals, I had to cook for myself most nights, so, I became good at it. 😁

It sort of varied, initially it was a bit meh, middle child with an older brother and a younger sister I had the smaller room and less privacy. When my brother went to University, I nabbed his room and that meant far more privacy as it was at the back of the house away from the front rooms. Everyone walk past my old room but no one walked past the new room.

And actually would blame my mother for a reason why I even ever got involved with kids who were doing bad things because if she didn't push me to be more social I would've just stayed inside.

I was very independent from a young age. My parent never put any stupid rules on me, let alone force me into a room or whatever is the opposite of not having a room?

But in addition, unlike other parents there were no restrictions on any movies or video games i could play, studying, future ambitions etc. I mean it wouldn't matter... I did what i wanted all the time.

Almost complete. Cape house and I was upstairs. HS I was never home. School 7-2 work 3-7 which progressed to 3-12 as HS went on. Notes I was off I told them I was working and partied til midnite. Weekends were a blur of fun depravity! I ♥️ 80s!!
